Any suggestions as to what she will do next is appreciated. They mailed an earlier on to her at her current address and now they are saying it does not match her record. They are not being helpful in find out what the hold up is.

(71,046 posts)Also, did she file her 20 taxes? People that didn't get it are getting it that way. There is a question and I think unless you answer 'yes' your got it that it will be included in tax refund if eligible.

(7,947 posts)My 2019 tax return (filed in April!) still hasn't been processed for some reason, so there's no "AGI" to tell that I'm eligible.
I'm not sure, but I read somewhere that if you don't get the check, you can claim that amount as a credit on your tax return to be filed by April, and it will come as an addition to your refund. So tell her to try that-- file the return early.
I found this article about it, and there are links to the IRS instructions, but she might try this!
If you think the IRS owes you stimulus money, you can use a recovery rebate worksheet to calculate how much you should receive and claim that amount on Line 30 of Form 1040 and Form 1040-SR. The IRS will include your stimulus payments as part of your refund check. Even if you don't earn enough money to typically file a return, you will need to submit one this year to receive your allotted payment. https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/recovery-rebate-credit
The IRS opened Free File, free online tax preparation software, in January for taxpayers who earn less than $72,000 to prepare and file their income tax returns, although they will not begin processing returns until Feb 12. https://www.irs.gov/filing/free-file-do-your-federal-taxes-for-free
For 2021, eligible taxpayers who did not receive the full amount can claim it as the Recovery Rebate Credit when they file their 2020 tax return, the IRS said. Use IRS Free File to file and claim this important benefit.

(7,964 posts)Including me. I moved after my last check and haven't received one from mail forwarding. I sent in a change of address form to the IRS, but they still use my old address. Tried calling and that doesn't work. Can't go to the local office because it's closed due to the pandemic. Tried to set up an account online. The latter seems to be a process they don't really want you to accomplish. You have to have info that many people don't have. I tried and after many attempts going through old tax returns and finally got to the end where they want your cell number. Said they weren't able to verify it even though I've had it for years, so then I requested they mail me an activation code in two weeks. Not holding my breath so will probably have to get it through my tax return.
Sorry for the rant but it has been frustrating for me too.

(6,066 posts)I filed 2018 and 2019 taxes, and all I get at "Get My Payment" is an error on verifying who I am.
I had moved before receiving the first, $1200 check, but it got forwarded to me. Then the forwarding order expired, but I filed my 2019 taxes with my new address, but I haven't received the $600 and can't get past the initial screen at "Get My Payment." It just says the information doesn't match what they have on file. How the hell am I supposed to find out what they have on file; it should be my current information?! After three tries, I get locked out for another 24 hours.....

(10,297 posts)I did this:
Quickly completed my tax form, and verified, verified, and had some else verify the names and address. Do NOT submit electronically. Send the tax filing by USPS or a private carrier -- must get tracking and verified delivery. Very important. In my first attempt, my filing was lost, I did another, and the first one was received. That caused confusion.
Using the internet, navigate to the IRS and find path to your Account Transcripts for the relevant tax year. This is painful -- you will chase your tail. Check your name and address in the transcript; if it there is difference, act to correct it.

(65 posts)Both of my twin sons got the first stimulus direct deposit but only one got the second. The unlucky one must file 2020 return to get the money.

(17,757 posts)They say it is because they have not processed our tax return from last year, even though they cashed the check enclosed with it last July. I am waiting on one (late) document from my state to file for this year.
