(46,866 posts)The wilful suspension of disbelief necessary to believe in a god or gods makes sure delusional magical thinking runs riot.
People are thus free to deny anything that doesn't comport with their wishes, and do anything they deem necessary to make sure their wishes come true, as they are just doing the 'god's will' and thus not only cleared of any wrongdoing, but are MANDATED (by their god or gods) to make sure their beliefs come to impactful fruition and are universalised at any cost.
gods lead to religion
religion leads to justified magical control
magical control leads to misery, hate, ignorance, envy, fear, torture, greed, sorrow, guilt, sickness, pain, violence, enslavement, war, darkness, and death

(333 posts)Rush Limbaugh and Fox News, One America News, and the other far-right lying gasbags that have been filling gullible people's heads for decades now. There's too much media concentration, and it's on the wrong side. Poorly educated people from states where public education is suspected, and dissed as "government schools," can't recognize propaganda, and that hurts us all.

(8,008 posts)Affinity to religion is hard wiired - not into all of us, any more than everyone is straight or everyone is gay, but into a goodly chunk of us. And there is another way it is like sexual orientation - it is vulnerable to mususe.
I assume you don''t believe that all CIS men are rapists, but I also assume you don't deny that some are. Likewise, do not blame all religious people for the faults - which are severe, and resemble rape in many aspects - of those who choose to use religion as a club to beat others with, instead of quietly and personally following it to leatrn to be better persons
If by any chance you said "religion" but actually meant "theocracy," I am with you 100% on that. Combining church with state corrupts both.
ALWAYS.

(46,866 posts)Any religion that has a god or god's then, by its very nature involves the wilful suspension of disbelief, which always leads to what I said.
Gods are the oldest and the biggest con in 3+ million years of human and hominid history. They are, by far, the most disastrous invention ever.
They are the ultimate woo, the ne plus ultra of magical thinking. The concept always leads to the outcomes stated because it denies, by its very nature, actual reality, and instead injects human invented, human manipulated magical thinking into the zeitgeist. Only the degree to which the negative outcomes manifest is variable.
llashram
(6,269 posts)delusion or wishful thinking. Those whose 'god' is violent, hate POC, love guns, abhor abortions and ignore children AFTER they are born are delusional and their god a made-up fantasy coming from their warped minds, their churches and so-called religious leaders. In Nazi Germany, many, many people had faith in God and believed Hitler was right in his thinking, especially about Jewish people. Look where that got them. Living hell like Dresden. And while many of those 'faithful' knew what was happening in the death camps they stayed quiet even after the discovery of hate and denial that is incomprehensible to me or was before d.trump and the modern 21st-century Republikkkan Party.
Otherwise, I feel faith is a personal choice and there are good-hearted people out there who have faith in a creator and know delusion is a world violent hateful people choose to live in.
Celerity
(46,866 posts)magical thinking. It's the ultimate woo, and opens the doors to all the worst possible manifestations of human activity, as you are no longer bound by logic and evidentiary-based science.
Mere faith and superstition run the road, and that unbinding of restraint and the casting aside of fact-based thought has resulted in thousands of years of relentlessly negative outcomes when measured on the full balance of time. Those negative impacts have occurred at every single level of human endeavour and existence.

(11,983 posts)why women struggle to support their children and dont want more or dont want to ruin their futures by dropping out of high school or college and taking a minimum wage job to try to support a baby they dont want. The Handmaiden never had to worry about the rent or baby food. Her callousness showsjust drop the baby somewhere, anywhere. Kind people will care for itor not. Kindness among evangelical Christians is sadly missing today. An interview on my local news tonight with a Republican right-wing hypocrite made me want to retch. He was so smarmy in saying that the Christians should not gloat (while gloating) and that they wanted to reassure women that they have nothing to fear and they will be taken care of. Gag. Just like Warren Jeffs took care of his sister wives.
Any woman who believes these people will take care of her and her baby is a fool.

(714 posts)While their ruling sucked - and note Uncle Tom says contraception and gay marriage are next - how about Loving v. Virginia - does anyone think any of the six can be anywhere in public without being harassed? As I've stated before, family is fair game because unlike the rats, I believe in precedence. If websites listing names, addresses, phone numbers, and family was fair game for reproductive right supporters, fair game for those who are not supporters.
Any time we hear "pro-life" or "pro-family", we need to ask, when are we raising taxes to provide child care, medical, dental, vision, housing, and education. Time for the antis/misogynists to walks the walk.

(24,337 posts)with the trio of bad decisions made on voting rights, on guns, on abortion, etc., they lost the respect of most Americans, and I would daresay even worse, Americans don't feel like the Supreme Court represents OUR views in this Country. Our Country is being taken away by a thuggish religious minority in this Country, who are trying to dictate to all of us how we should live.
Yeah, right, Land of the Free eh?
Just wait, this is the tip of the iceberg as Thomas indicated dissatisfaction w/ other law too, as though he was solely going to overturn or make law himself. Disgusting and totally unconstitutional for one man's opinion to determine what should be ruled on as he himself mentioned 'oh, there's other law I don't like'!! What?!!

What I need to know is, why did she lie in her confirmation hearing when she said under oath that Roe is the law of the land?
They all said it under oath, but she's the most recent one to do so. Other than Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, who hasn't actually been sworn in yet. At the moment there are 5 LIARS on the Supreme Court bench.

We need another 60's women's rights revolt!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of women (and men) would peacefully protest in front of every state's Capitol Building, and invite the local news and ask civilian videographers and photographers to film it, something would get the law makers attention.......If there were any authorities wading into peaceful protestors with full battle gear, it would be on film..............
If the Republicans thought J6 was a big deal and show of force, with thousands of violent protestors, wait until they saw the same numbers of peaceful demonstrators in every state gathering peacefully and just sitting down on their state's capitol lawn and staying........
