Question.? She told him that, of course, Donald sold documents to the Saudi government (and implicitly to anyone else) for his benefit
And he doesn't give a damn about US government security interests.
She thinks it preposterous for the DOJ to have given him the deference they have .

(10,486 posts)TFG attempted a coup on our country. That should be included in every single mention of him in any news media.
However, in our house we do listen regularly to Rachel Maddow, Laurence O'Donnell, and our newest addition--Ari Melber. All of whom are appropriately critical of the iDJT.
Hope you're doing well, Cha! (At least well as can be expected in these times, anyway!)

(1,535 posts)It is a difficult concept to remember, but it explains everything he does. There is no doubt in my mind that he has sold out to the Russians and Saudis. Notice that he keeps referring to "my boxes", not "the boxes".
This is the dark side of the German temperament. I know my relatives are all German.
The old European joke holds true: Heaven is where the police are British, the cooks French, the mechanics German, the lovers Italian, and it is all run and organized by the Swiss. Hell has German police, British cooks, Swiss lovers, French mechanics and is organized and run by Italians.

(1,535 posts)We are hard wired in certain ways. When growing up in an environment that encourages emotional control, a stubborn desire for order, and working hard, it is difficult to go against the tide. We are complicated. It has always been interesting to me that a society that could produce magnificent composers such as Bach, Brahms, Beethoven and Mozart could also produce the Master Race theory resulting in the holocaust.

(1,211 posts)I think it only takes a couple of generations to break free of the cultural stereotypes.
Especially when various cultures combine.
Also, living in the USA sets one mostly free of the old world cultures.
I'm not sure if you mean genetics when you say "hard wired". Although, most agree, things are a combination of genetics and environment.
I think the traits you mention are almost entirely environmental, by the way.
I have thought long and hard about how the German's could have followed Hitler.
I now know, having experienced Trump.
And at a certain point, almost all would be to afraid to speak up against the group. And it would be like being swept along by a fast flowing current.

(13,171 posts)That has long been a European/American distinction, even if less true today than in the past... European countries tended to be insular and largely homogenous, compared to the American "melting pot." There wasn't so much combining of various cultures. So it would have been easier for certain cultural norms/behaviors/priorities to persist.

(13,171 posts)All these speculations about his holding onto the docs in order to sell their valuable information doesn't explain why he couldn't have returned the docs and merely kept copies. It's the info that matters. A copy is as good as an original. It's not like they're Picassos.

CIA admits to losing dozens of informants around the world: NYT
Leading counterintelligence officials issued a memo to all of the CIAs global stations saying that a concerning number of U.S. informants were being captured and executed.
The CIAs counterintelligence mission center investigated dozens of incidents in the last few years that involved killings, arrests or compromises of foreign informants. In an unusual move, the message sent via a top secret cable included the specific number of agents killed by other intelligence agencies, according to The New York Times.
Note the date.

(12,853 posts)Our country's crypto secrets to Russia in1985. It was plastered everywhere.
Regan got caught in the process of selling materials to China, Iraq, and Libya for $13 million. In 2021.And that was plastered all over the news.
So little poopy pants Donnie should be treated the same way. But for some reason DOJ has said nothing about who he sold the documents to. Nor has our corporate monopoly media seemed to care.
This is sounding more and more like the Mueller case. Where only a few pardoned coconspirators will be successfully prosecuted. I hope not.
But from sitting on juries myself, I always want to know why a person committed a crime and profit in a capitalist system is a huge motivator. Him wanting to hold them, love them and keep them just doesn't wash.

(5,338 posts)He will be also charged in relation to the classified documents case in DC at a minimum. I've heard mention there may be as many as six in the pipeline. The next most likely would be in New Jersey (home of Trump National in Bedminister NJ.)
The other classified documents cases don't involve J6 which is hugely complicated and involves dozens (hundreds?) of participants so the trial would take much longer in court and be much more difficult for the average citizen to grasp. Smith won't go ahead with J6 until he has it nailed down as thoroughly as he has the case that starts today.
I'd be shocked to learn Trump didn't sell top secret documents that endanger national security and may have resulted in the deaths of CIA agents or their sources.
I think Jack Smith may be releasing documents related charges a little at a time to allow the American people to get acclimated to the idea of the most serious crimes Trump committed. (Only my opinion). We here at DU would have no problem believing he sold secrets but the majority of citizens are probably not at that point yet.
The south Florida case should be a slam dunk and could get him a maximum of 400 years in prison. So that would take him out of circulation until the other cases can get going.
Make sure you stock up on popcorn. It could be scarce in stores for a while.

(3,807 posts)She's opening herself up to civil, or even criminal, charges of making false statements unsupported by facts.
She can say stuff like "...in [her] opinion Donald would be capable of something like that...". But she can't say "of course he did" unless she was a witness to it or has evidence of it.
We Donald detractors have got to toe a somewhat fine line so as not to give the other side ammunition to throw at us - especially legal ammo.
The last thing I want is for Mary Trump or other critics of the Orange Goblin to be silenced or penalized for over-exuberant opining.
