All these wars serve some rich, powerful, manipulative group's ulterior motives.

(3,276 posts)Ok. Interesting take.
Edit - War is a Racket. What, exactly, does the book end with? Recommendations, one of which is the limitation of militaries to self-defense.
The exact kind of war that Israel is currently fighting. The implications that this war is, somehow, a racket to the benefit of Israel is complete and utter bogus unless you would also consider even defensive wars to be a racket.

(36,931 posts)But I do disagree. If attacked, a country has a right to defend itself and go on offensive. And this latest is not is in any way what anyone but Hamas wanted.

As you know how we all felt about bush and Iraq, this kind of stuff was flung around all the time and not questioned, cause it was the truth in that case. Any hoot, I cant speak for her. Just my humble opinion.

(3,276 posts)But, of course, Israel isn't allowed the right of self-defense. Everything they do is considered an offense to some.

(9,535 posts)When an enemy insists upon war, the option is to resist or capitulate. See: Ukraine.
It can be a racket for the aggressor and survival for the defender. And thats just one option.

(55,133 posts)Supporters of the regime may gain mightily from the wars, but they are manufacturers and not politicians. Arms of Krupp, for example. Today military government contracting feeds many a stock portfolio's profits. But no one is overtly running around saying "Let's start a war so we can make money!" Reagan's military buildup was popular though amongst Republican Wall Street.
