It didn’t even take a week...
When asked if anyone has forced, threatened or promised her anything in exchange for her guilty plea, Powell responded, "other than what is recited in the documents, no."
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/sidney-powell-pleads-guilty-georgia-2020-election-case-fulton-county/
She should have her plea withdrawn and she should stand trial. No judge should accept a plea that the defendant said was coerced or extorted. If she believes she is innocent of wrongdoing, a plea is not acceptable.
I have stated over and over that central figures of the criminal prosecution of the 2020 sedition cannot walk away without punishment. She has already avoided disbarment in Texas. She raised at least $14mm in donations. For her to plead guilty to misdemeanors and basically walk away with no sanction of prison time because, you know, she may (or may not) bring some evidence against Trump or someone else who will get a sweet plea deal, is not acceptable. She could have also gotten a year in prison as part of the plea to avoid the RICO prosecution. To me it is starting to appear that the lawyers are being extended professional courtesy, as Giuliani’s claim that everything he did was just part of his job as a lawyer soliciting for his client. And obviously, she sees the civil cases against her as bullshit, she can drag it out for years, and then drag out paying money for years more, all the while raising more money.

All of it's true. It's reality. But Sidney views it as bullying, and that turns into extortion. Sidney is too easy to figure out. But this is great. Some guy in Maine kills nearly two dozen people and injures dozens, and Sidney Powell is moaning that she's being bullied by a special prosecutor.

It’s very apparent that none of the three who have struck plea deals so far have any remorse for their participation in this crime.
so VERY much that NONE of them have shown ANY remorse. I don't give a shit that Ellis cried in court yesterday - the only thing she is sorry for is getting caught.

Nobody forces you to accept an offer of an alternative plea. You even put it on the record that it was a voluntary acceptance.
There is no such thing as a metaphorical/figurative extortion.
If you accept, you get a better deal than if you were convicted, possibly being given the full penalties of your conviction(s).
If you decline, it's really a status quo: You have your due process rights preserved in a right to trial with all the protections. You haven't lost anything.

if she tells the truth every time she is asked to testify, the plea deal stays in place (and you can bet her testimony has been parsed, investigated, and corroborated ten different ways)... if she lies, the plea deal is off...as for "coercion", I suspect when her "I have a 1st amendment right to vomit conspiracy bullshit and steal voter data" appeal was denied, the prospect of years of jail time and hefty lawyers fees was all the "coercion" she needed to flip...

People fear Trump, that's why they don't flip on him.
Everyone needs to clam down, Fani Willis is running a pyramid strategy that actually works. There is a delay for the next trial, when it gets closer there will be more flippers.
Trump would love for Fani to revoke the Kraken plea deal, he wants people to go to jail for him, plus Fani's trials are on schedule to happen pre-election.
Fani is good at RICO prosecutions, that's why Georgia Magats will try to remove her from office.
I trust in Fani.

Sidney Powell's Plea Proves Fulton County DA Went Nuclear To Get Trump
QUOTE: The bottom line is this: Willis basically extorted a guilty plea from Powell by charging her with seven serious felonies, including a RICO conspiracy count, two counts of conspiracy to commit election fraud, and one count each of conspiracy to commit computer theft, conspiracy to commit computer trespass, conspiracy to commit computer invasion of privacy, and conspiracy to defraud the state.

"Our" means "Sidney and one more site". The hilarious thing is the "exortion" consists of "charges". A lawyer is repeating that if someone agrees to a plea deal, they have been "extorted", because otherwise they'd have to fight charges in court.
More on "Defending the Republic":
An attorney for Powell said at the time that, “We have always known the more effective we are, the more the false attacks will intensify. Defending the Republic has and will continue to fight for #WeThePeople who make this country work.”
...
Powell is now limited in what she can say publicly about the Georgia case. But her nonprofit, Defending the Republic, asked followers for forbearance in a Friday newsletter distributed via the Substack platform: “We at Defending the Republic appreciate your patience, support, and understanding of Sidney’s decision regarding the Georgia case.”

ATLANTA (AP) — Lawyer Sidney Powell pleaded guilty to reduced charges Thursday over efforts to overturn Donald Trump’s loss in the 2020 election in Georgia, becoming the second defendant in the sprawling case to reach a deal with prosecutors.
Powell, who was charged alongside Trump and 17 others with violating the state’s anti-racketeering law, entered the plea just a day before jury selection was set to start in her trial. She pleaded guilty to six misdemeanors accusing her of conspiring to intentionally interfere with the performance of election duties.

(53,951 posts)Wall Street Journal reporting seems to be kind of neutral and factual.
WSJ editorial board is decidedly right wing and wrong.
Another issue is editorial/production allocation of time/space. Reporting might be neutral but if stories are presented on particular topics more so than others, the net effect can be somewhat biased. For example if more stories appear about Biden gaffes than about tRump brain fades, word salad, and other signs of senility, then the net effect can be anti-Biden / pro-tRump even while each report can be neutral.
Similarly, choice of guests is important.

She's got no reputation left any more, and any self-respecting bar will disqualify her anyway), so she had been "extorted" into agreeing the deal. (6,332 posts)example, about the time the pandemic started I was hired to represent a man charged with aggravate sexual assault. He was charged with having sex with a 13 yo girl of a family friend he lived with. It was by no means and open and shut case, my client had several defenses and the victim’s credibility was questionably. I think he could have won the case but if he didn’t and the jury found he guilty he would serve 25 years in prison without parole.
Because the pandemic stopped jury trials for 2 years he spent 2 years in the county jail. When trials resumed he was offered 5 years flat which means he would be immediately eligible for parole. He took that deal because if he didn’t and lost at trial he would spend the rest of his life in prison. Did he really have a choice? He said all the right words during his plea elocution and admitted he had sex with the minor. I’m not so sure he was guilty but the downside to jury was just way to massive to take the risk.
Criminal defendants often take a plea deal especially one like Powell’s to avoid exposure to prison. I think she took a first offender program that already had an alternative sentence if she violated her plea deal. As I recall, I wasn’t impressed by the penalties she would face if she did violate her agreement.

I wonder if Powell had similar limitations imposed?
Wonder Why
(5,331 posts)asked him questions on every aspect of his plea, from whether he had consulted his lawyers to whether he was on any medications that would affect his thinking. It was question after question to be sure that he was being treated fairly and he was sure he wanted to plea guilty as well as to be sure he understood and freely accepted the consequences.
Instead of letting Powell withdraw the plea, she should be brought back to court and be required to testify under oath whether her plea was extorted. If she says it was, then she should be charged with felony purgery for lying to the judge under oath. If she says that she was not, she should be warned that continuing to make those claims will result in a Contempt and possible jail time.
