I think that the civil findings against Donald Trump in the rape case should be enough to convince any "normal" voter that Trump is unqualified to serve as President of the United States. Please don't reply about MAGAts being unconvinced. Any conviction in any case will not dissuade the hard-core cultists. I already know that. I don't live under a rock. I'm talking about the slice of the electorate, mostly Independents, who can still be persuaded.
Every time an elected official, like Chris Sununu, for example, or Nikki Haley, say that they will support Trump in a General Election against Biden, they should be confronted with the question, "are you comfortable supporting a person who is adjudicated as a rapist by a unanimous jury verdict?"
In response to anyone who says that this was a New York jury, first of all, a lot of those jurors in the first case came from counties that Trump carried. Second, Trump still got more than a third of the vote in New York, why didn't he get at least 3 not responsible votes from the jury?
Trump is a rapist, pure and simple.

(41,381 posts)While shown live on the local news and magas would support him and send him money. Haley and. Sununu would wait a couple of weeks to support him. Those who trump may be blackmailing would have to weigh their options. Susan Collins will tell us trump will soon learn his lesson. Ted Cruz will fly to Cancun. Mitch McConnel will mumble something about the rule of law. And the freak show will roll on.
You are right Pototan.

(52,669 posts)I personally realized it today when I went to my doctor for my yearly check-up. Last weekend I remade my anti-tRump earrings since the ones I had made in 2016 broke a few weeks ago after not wearing earrings for 3 years, due to masking for Covid and the straps would get caught in my earrings. The medical assistant said she liked my earrings then we started to chat while I waited. She told me that she has never been very political but that the last few years has opened her eyes to what the GOP stands for and she is really pissed off! And this is in San Diego.
My gut tells me that the GOP has really fucked themselves this time. GOOD!!!!! They have screwed around with women's rights and they are going to get nailed in Nov by the women in the US. I hope the fucking moron continues to say he will make abortion illegal. That BS drives voters away from the GOP.

(52,669 posts)for judging the popularity of the fucking moron. So far it has proved to be spot on. I make home made anti-trump bumper stickers and lapel pins and have for 7 years and have gotten pretty good at discerning the political environment based on reactions from others. Along with my gut instincts, which are usually right when I actually listen to them, I have been pretty accurate but I don't want to jinx myself so I rarely admit it even to myself. I am superstitious and I make tRump voodoo dolls and put curses on him (for added measure...you can never over do anything that could get that bastard out of the picture permanently). You have to cover all the bases with the orange Nazi, even crazy superstitions. GOTV is great but I do even more in my own little, personal ways.

Back then I honestly thought that was the end for him. It was frightening that it was not. It says a lot about American culture with Republicans.

(3,854 posts)There's never enough to convince the trump davidian cult.
He can be caught on tape saying he can grab them by the youknowwhat, be labeled a rapist by a judge, never attend any church unless it's a photo op, and still be Mr Evangelical in their eyes.
He can say John McCain is not a war hero because he was captured, call Vietnam vets suckers and losers, publicly insult military generals, and still be Mr military patriot.
There's simply no line he can ever cross. I get that you intend your post toward moderates, but, while these things I mentioned will never resonate with trumpers, they never really seem to resonate with moderates either, where they certainly would for anyone else, democrat or republican.

My OP already disregarded the Trump MAGAt cultists. No shittin' they can't be convinced. As I said in my OP, I don't live under a rock.

(34,662 posts)If someone doesn't give AF about the E Jean Carrol case, they likely won't give AF about his being a convicted insurrectionist either.
That said, I think, as one of trump's January 6th (indirect) victims, I just wanted to feel like some sort of justice was achieved prior to him potentially getting back into the White House. I think it's kind of a sanity thing, completely separate from how these cases will affect his chances.
Also, there's a moral component as well - why do we have a country where it's possible for a white male insurrectionist to run again and dispose of all the charges against himself? It seems -- banana republic like. There are so many layers of unfairness to unpack, it's really hard to drop it and let it go.

(3,363 posts)The message is very simple and needs to be repeated as such: if you support him, you are supporting a rapist.

(1,411 posts)Anyone not disgusted by the rape and defamation of E Jean Carroll is unlikely to be swayed by any of the other issues.
I still think he'll lose his marbles and become utterly dysfunctional by November but that may be wishful thinking. If we're testing the moral integrity of the country though, this should be enough.

(53,544 posts)They are just a small group within the Republican Party. And I doubt there are many Independents that fall in line with them. More of them will likely drop off and either vote for Biden or someone else.
Keep this in mind. For every person that voted for Trump in 2020 and votes for Biden is a 2 vote difference. If they don't vote or vote for someone else it is a 1 vote advantage for Biden.
