Trump violates his gag order this morning by posting a clip of Brian Kilmeade repeating the same fake story about a fake social media account supposedly from the judges daughter that led to the gag order being extended.

(12,202 posts)Of course, if he were locked up even for a day, his supporters would likely appear at the jail with many guns to break him out. I wonder if he is trying to get this to happen. Hes the king of stupid stunts.
Tree Lady
(12,218 posts)if he wants to go to jail. Knowing they would put him in a separate room and give him special treatment. That way he doesn't have to worry about campaigning or money, his supporters would donate even more feeling sorry for him.
The news would be ALL about him and nothing else would get talked about. No issues would be discussed it would all be about why he is in jail. Classic diversion.

(122,795 posts)Should he be locked up, which is what would happen if the defendant were almost anybody else, when that would be an enormous distraction and would further fire up the loonier cult members? What else can be done? I recall that Merchan order included the sanction that Trump's team would not be given the names of prospective jurors, which doesn't sound like a big deal but it really is. Knowing your jury pool in advance is crucial to forming a trial strategy, but nobody has a constitutional right to that information, and Trump certainly shouldn't have it because of the very real likelihood that those jurors would be threatened.

(17,236 posts)Both programs prohibit payments to most prisoners.
We will suspend your Social Security benefits if you are confined to a jail, prison or other penal institution for more than 30 continuous days due to a criminal conviction. Although you cant get monthly Social Security benefits while you are confined, we will continue to pay benefits to your dependent spouse or children as long as they remain eligible.
If you get SSI, we will stop your payments after you are imprisoned for a month.
If you use our prerelease procedure, we may be able to reinstate your benefits starting with the month you are released. SSI recipients who are confined 12 consecutive months or longer, must reapply for SSI and again be approved.

The Sane Republican politicians have seen what the Republican Party has done to dissenters like Mary Cheney, etc
The Republican politicians love the lifestyle they are living, and will do anything to maintain it........
How else can a nobody or crook run for election, and win, just by repeating Trump's shit over and over.....???????

(2,664 posts)He is the greatest single-person threat the country has ever faced, and he is treated with kid gloves, getting away with more than any American ever has and still be allowed free. It's like all the people with the power to stop him, right and left, have chosen together to do absolutely nothing about him. Meanwhile, American citizens are outraged. To absolutely no effect. America looks stupid to the rest of the world, AGAIN.

(7,794 posts)After a few days, people will adjust pretty easily to his irrelevance and absence from the front page 24/7. He would lose the election even more profoundly, taking the GOP down into the dead zone of history with him. So, these tools have no choice but to play the hand they already dealt themselves. It's too late and only magical thinking addicts would think otherwise. He's already broke the RNC bank and the big cat donor's boards of directors will frown on throwing good money after bad. The only hole card Trump has is the USSC and they're only good for delay tactics at this or any foreseeable point.
Just how does anyone think will it play out if that crooked court tries to twist reality into a Trump win despite Biden's win by an actual land slide? There could be a bunch of people at the steps of the court walking through barricades and stuff. It's happened before, and for no good reason.
Let's all get clear about a few things; Gore won, Hillary won and Byden won, and will win again, as well.
Tansy_Gold
(18,065 posts)So what if he becomes a "martyr"?
If the courts do nothing, if they let him continue to get away with it, someone is almost certain to be seriously hurt or even be killed. The J6 event is evidence of the probability of this happening. He's going to keep egging them on until they do exactly what they did then, or in Charlottesville, or any of the other "incidents." Doing nothing will not stop it. Doing nothing will encourage it, and will further erode what little power the courts still have. Doing nothing is a lose-lose-lose proposition.
If a judge, any judge, takes action and really locks him up, prevents him from doing any more of this, yes, there's a possibility that he'll become a "martyr" and his followers will do something horrible. There's also the possibility that it will finally shut him up, help the judicial system regain some authority and respect, and bring at least a few of the cult followers under control. Doing something MAY stop it. Doing something MAY help.
Isn't "doing something" worth the risk?

Tommy Carcetti
(43,707 posts)His very first words after issuing the order: "I just was informed that another corrupt New York Judge, Juan Merchan, GAGGED me..."
Keep in mind, unlike the civil fraud trial, this is a jury trial. There will be a pool of potential jurors, and when the presiding judge is labeled by one of the parties as "corrupt," it instantly creates a threat of prejudice where jurors--perhaps even subconsciously--perceive or associate the judge on the case as being "corrupt" and then questioning the legitimacy of the entire proceedings.
In any type of reasonable world, this here should be a violation of the order, right off the bat.
If the order does not already expressly prohibit this behavior, it should immediately be amended to do so.

(1,237 posts)but the friends and acquaintences of any juror should be questioned as to whether they EVER suggested or mentioned supporting trump or Biden. If they did, then they're out.
Give all jurors the same vetting as when we all had to go through a secutiy clearance, check with friends, realatives, neighbors even the garbage men. And...find out which media they watch and how often. It's just that this is much more important than any other clearence test, even National Security...as it has turned out these passed few years.

Couldn't possibly agree more. We can't be hostage to stochastic terrorism or outright terrorism of any kind. Up to now only foreign powers have made these kind of threats ... safely separated from reality by oceans.
Bu, but somebody might get muh muh mad and hurt somebody!
Somebody IS going to get hurt because, make no mistake about it, we are in a WAR people. Some of the wealthiest entities on the planet have thrown ungodly sums of money toward brainwashing the poorly educated among us and it's both sad and frightening to see how successful they've been and how many morans there really are.
Still, only the most deluded Trump loving paintball coplayer thinks they have even the slightest chance to win an engagement with The United States of America.
The Proud Boys and 1%'er's leaders were arrested and taken to jail and their little army did nothing about it. They supposedly had a bunch of guns and bombs on Jan 6th which was going to be their day of rage. Did you hear the shit talking and big threats issued in that crowd?Thought they were going to take over the world.
Okay, the mob and their members beat up and even eventually killed a few vastly outnumbered Capital Police. Some of those in the mob were armed, probably felt real cool flashing their gear to others in the crowd, like look what a badass I am. Then, when the National Guard and other law enforcement finally showed up ... they ran for the hills.
A lot of idiots in that crowd even videoed the whole thing for law enforcement and then posted it on social media! Not only incriminating themselves but scores of others who got caught on Candid Camera. They're still getting outed.
They'd have run away a lot sooner had the cavalry showed up like it was a BLM rally but as we now know, Trump and his toadies had done about everything possible to make sure the Capitol Police were the only thing available to try and stop their takeover of the reigns of power, overturn the results of the most fairly run and won election ever and install their orange gawd back in power.
Anyway, those guys, the Proud Bois and 1%er's were suppose to be the best they had ... the ones, among others, who came armed and were going to "Fight for Trump"? Didn't happen. After seeing hundreds of fellow travelers arrested and jailed they didn't answer their Leader's call to come and fight for him in New York or Miami, IN FLORIDA my home state, now packed full of Trump sympathizers unfortunately. Oh, they might fly a Trump Flag, put stickers on their cars, bitch about Hippies down at the VFW and vote for him but that's it. The idea of a civil war being won by the likes of them is absolutely ridiculous. We'd clean their clocks if they, whoever "they" are, actually shows up and tries to start one start one. Even if a small but dedicated group of them with some skills actually "won" one battle by oh idk, say like ... murdering a bunch of unprepared prison personnel. But it wouldn't inspire anyone else and they'd suffer a sad fate. If not sooner, then later.
Citizens like us are in the Majority and we have Righteousness and The Rule of Law on our side and if that's not enough for some people, well, there are much bigger sticks available.

(2,543 posts)The picture he shared with Biden tied up is a clear threat of violence against the POTUS considering who it came from. That right there should result in him being arrested and charged with making threats. It's even worse than the "artwork" that Kathie Griffin did, which was clearly in bad taste. Being charged for that would then be a violation of his bond agreement in all four criminal cases. His bonds must be revoked and he must be held without access to the media until trial. There is no other option. It would be "political" NOT to detain him. I'm about done with this administrations "walking upon egg shells" with all things concerning Trump.

At some point someone has to gather the courage to draw a line in the sand and declare enough is enough and confront this head on.
