(Rhetorical question, of course, as the same can be said about multiple Trumpists, including the most obvious one.)

Marge here is openly giving excuses for Vladimir Putin.
She claims the American people are "paying for the murder and slaughter of people in Ukraine."
That's right. Bucha, Mariupol and everywhere else was not Putin's fault. It's our fault.
What a fucking piece of shit she is.

"Peace for our time" was a declaration made by British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain in his 30 September 1938 remarks in London after a meeting and reaching an 'agreement' with Adolf Hitler - who later was the mastermind of World War 2.

(11,767 posts)History is littered with "terrible" people, much more evil and terrible than Greene. The fact that they can rise to positions of power and stay so long in those positions, is more a statement on us as a society than on the fact that "terrible" people exist. Why is Donald Trump the presumptive nominee of one of the two major political parties in the United States? He is terrible. The man that Greene is defending, Vladimir Putin, has been in power in Russia for over 20 years. He is terrible. The US House of Representatives, is full of terrible people, all of whom have won elections to be in that position.
We need to stop asking "How can people be so terrible?" and start really focusing on "Why do we put terrible people in positions of power?" What kind of systems are in place, that allow people with no morals or ethics to become powerful?
Then we need to challenge those systems and power structures.
CrispyQ
(39,517 posts)Systems that demand corporations serve their shareholders instead of their stakeholders. Systems set up to protect the assets of rich shareholders from irresponsible behavior or decisions. Systems that look one quarter ahead instead of seven generations.
Everything for profit is killing our planet.
Caliman73
(11,767 posts)The sad thing is that many of us, even on this site, continue to think that this system or these systems are the best systems and CANNOT be replaced with something different as if the system (Capitalism) is natural and organic.
Necessity is the mother of invention. Profit is the mother of greed. The incentive should be for all people to be healthy, fed, and have time to develop themselves to be the best people they can be. Instead we value humanity by its monetary assets and power.

(124,349 posts)In a sane society, people like MTG and any number of other Congressional reprobates (not to mention Trump) would be ostracized. They wouldn't be invited to parties. People would cross the street to avoid having to talk to them and would roll their eyes when their names are mentioned. But here, in the parts of the USA we could call Dumbfuckistan, they are elected to represent the people who live in those parts. How can we not conclude that being terrible isn't a bug but a feature?

(20,252 posts)I’ll talk with anybody, regardless of their political ideology, but when they start parroting the nonsense, lies, and propaganda that politicians like Greene, and talking heads like Hannity and Carlson spew, it’s just not worth the effort. People like that are damaged and irreparable. We have to focus our efforts on people who are not cult members.

If anything, I think it disgusts him--especially such behavior coming from woman. Look at the women he DOES approve of in his life... Melania, Ivanka, and all the preening "hanger-on (s) " at Mar a Lago?
Ironically, the nastier she is, the less likely she'll get what she wants. And does anyone think even the cowards left among her R's in Congress are going to support HER for Speaker?
She may be from the safest district in GA, but even there I'd bet she is increasingly turning off/annoying at least some of her female constituents.

RVN VET71
(2,869 posts)Part of our America HAS ALWAYS been in love with Hitler and what he preached. Check out Rachel Maddow's "Prequel", then read David Corn's "American Psychosis," and then pick up a copy -- if you can find one* -- of George Seldes' "Facts and Fascism" as well as Antony Sutton's "Wall Street and the Rise of Hitler". (The last named was a conservative -- old school -- and frequent contributor to Human Events and National Review.)
Fascism runs a thick and bloody stream through 20th century American politics. Prior to WWII, General (and thrice Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient) Smedley Darlington Butler testified before Congress of a plot to overthrow the Federal Government, and with it our democracy, that he, himself, had been asked to lead.
And the beat goes on:
Today, the bulk of Republican politicians comprise a 21st century 5th column of fascist supporters and are open admirers of Putin and Orban. Moreover, the cult hero and leader of the GOP, Fat Donnie, himself, has openly praised Xi and Kim Jung Un, as well as the Saudi Arabian butcher, Mohammed bin Salman. More disturbing, literally millions of us Americans are fully prepared to get bloody -- or at the very least cheer on those who do --should President Biden win re-election.

You are an old man who thinks in terms of nations and peoples. There are no nations. There are no peoples. There are no Russians. There are no Arabs. There are no third worlds. There is no West. There is only one holistic system of systems, one vast and immense, interwoven, interacting, multivariate, multinational dominion of dollars. Petro-dollars, electro-dollars, multi-dollars, reichmarks, rins, rubles, pounds, and shekels.
It is the international system of currency which determines the totality of life on this planet. That is the natural order of things today. That is the atomic and subatomic and galactic structure of things today! And YOU have meddled with the primal forces of nature, and YOU WILL ATONE!"

(6,968 posts)verbalises the seething resentment that a lot of people of low skills and intelligence feel towards their life and the rest of the world.
They feel that others are holding them back. Workmates, family, dem politicians, all holding them back from what they promised themselves their adult life would be like.
Those people are in the way of the wealth and happiness they promised would be theirs in adulthood.
Looking inward as how they come up short and what to do about it, is not in their personal skill set. It all gets externalised, and Marge helps them do that.
For her followers, her lack of intelligence and logic are solid features, not faults.
They will keep voting for her. And others like her.
I bite my tongue when relatives complain about their hardships, year on year, when there is zero evidence of them doing anything constructive about them.
The concept of 'doing something about it' or accepting their current state is beyond them.
