But I love Albatrosses!

As I was saying about Osprey in the first thread, I oftentimes watch the Albatross nest cams at https://www.allaboutbirds.org/cams/royal-albatross/. The Albatross are fabulous!

I am convinced birds have much more functional relationships than their human counterparts.

is a seagull, not an albatross. Your comment made me look up the differences between them! This shot was taken off the coast of North Carolina, which is not part of the habitat of albatross. There is also a difference in location of the black on the wings, head, and beak. The gull is a shore bird and albatross are found mostly at sea. The flying pattern is also different. Albatross soar on the wind and cannot support flapping their much longer wing span for long.

My wife and I visited the Royal Albatross Center on the Otago Peninsula last February. We were very fortunate that they were extremely active that day, soaring back and forth. We stayed late into the night to watch the blue penguins come ashore as well. We weren't going to leave New Zealand without crossing these birds off our bucket list.

FYI, the albatross pictured here have a nine foot wingspan.

I've become so emotionally invested in the bird CAMS. I would love to go to Taiaroa Head and see the Royal Albatross. After all, I feel like I have helped raise 3 generations of Royal CAM chicks. It boggles my mind how they are born in New Zealand....then migrate until they are ready to court/be courted and return back to Taiaroa Head. Get Married and have Children (I think there might be a song in there).
