General Discussion

that because of my lifestyle but it's the big issue for others and what do we do about that?
You can tell these people inflation is under control all you want but prices are still up higher than they should be. Idiots listen to wealthy people making more than ever because of that inflation telling them how mad they should be about it. They have no intention of fixing what ain't broke to them.
Propose a tax rebate or cut for working class people and fuck the I got mine types, especially on our side. Make the people at the top pay for it. At the very least show who flips out and fights that.

(3,606 posts)It can't all be anti-Trump all the time. People want something to look forward to, not just attacks.

(28,834 posts)DU is hyper-focused on Trump, Trump, and more Trump. People act as though attacking him would be something new, instead of something that Democrats have been doing constantly since 2015. They're convinced that if we just beat voters over the head with how bad Trump is for the 4,000th time, this one will definitely be the one that sinks in.
It has to be more than that, because that's clearly not working. We need to balance calling out Trump with getting across to voters exactly what we'll do to improve their lives in myriad ways. The focus needs to be on the latter, because we need our side to get out and vote way more than we need to spend endless resources trying to court the tiny fraction of the populace that's still (inexplicably) undecided. If our message reaches them, great. But the focus needs to be on motivating Democrats and left-leaning independents to get to the polls.
I'm confident that Democratic leadership understands this and will act accordingly. The VP's speech today was a good balance, and she's just getting started.

(15,827 posts)If you make $1000/week... and spend $800 /week on bills...
And then go up to $1200/week and $1000/week in bills...
The standard response is "I bust my ass for an extra $200 and it gets ripped off by inflation"
So this line of argument is worthless for working folks.
People believe they're supposed to "get ahead" in life with time and have more money left over

(15,359 posts)what that is? Anyone there or above needs to STFU about it for one thing. I know some MAGAts that are there and still posting about prices.
People on our side have to want to fix that and we know some do not. Their donors are even more against it. That needs to be fixed. We need to primary DINOs.

(28,834 posts)Wealthy people on our side generally want taxes raised to help pay for social programs and reduce inequity and have been saying so for years. This is not a "both sides are bad" issue.

(3,007 posts)Wages need to continue to grow and we need to do something about greedflation.
But that has more to do with actual competition rather than minimally competing oligopoly.

(21,914 posts)Prices are up 20% since Covid while wages are up 24 %. But that wage growth is concentrated at the bottom. The bottom 10% saw more wage growth than the top 10%.

(1,578 posts)And have a discussion on what they can do to lower prices, especially on essentials. Offer them a carrot to take some off of prices like some tax incentives or subsidies or something (whatever a President can do), then threaten to tax them more if they dont start some cutting as the stick. I know there is room to cut, when inflation came around they just passed the increases on and added some more in for themselves. You could offer something like giving Americans a $50 food card every month until prices went down but the Republicans would explode. Hmmm.
And why not have Sonia Sotomayor drop in on the meeting? She can give legal advice to them about what Presidents can do to people according to 6 of her colleagues.
I know Biden is still technically in charge but if let her start doing some things to show that she is serious about the lives of voters it could boost her popularity. Biden could make her a sort of de facto president without resigning the post.
Like Michael Moore I too had thought Biden officially resigning might be a good idea for the incumbency advantage before realizing how much Republicans could screw us over on it. But if Biden lets her start putting her own plans into action now that would be nearly as effective. Whatever Kamala can do to show she is addressing some of the issues that was dragging Biden down would be good for her. Shes already addressed the biggest issue - age - without having to do anything.
