Remind those that may have been around then what was at stake then and at stake now.

There were several controversial ads from Johnson's Democratic party. One-offs, in many cases, which preyed on the memory of the listener.

“Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they're sure trying to do so, it's going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise. I know, I've tried to deal with them.”

He is William Bogert. From IMDB, he looks to be a long-time character actor.

If you have seen the Chappelle Show, he is the reporter in that first show skit about Clayton Bigsby, the blind black KKK member. I found him by looking up that skit.

Crazy how I can spot crap like that, but can't remember where I sat my glasses down

though I do remember the Daisy ad. But it certainly reverberates now, and Goldwater wasn't even half as crazy and extreme as Trump and his goons.

there actual issues at stake and it fits perfectly into the present moment. So 1950s and 60s to pull out a cigarette to heighten the sense of anxiety and serious reflection. Brilliant propaganda. I remember that election (I was 11 years old), and my parents were worried that Goldwater might be serious about launching a nuclear war. They later became rabid conservatives thanks to their anxiety about 60s race riots and assassinations, and then Fox News totally brainwashed them.

In 1964, Bogert starred in the "Confessions of a Republican" ad for Lyndon B. Johnson in the 1964 U.S. presidential election. Bogert was a lifelong Republican, which was a requirement for the casting.[2][3] He appeared on Don Lemon's CNN news show on March 17, 2016, and also on Rachel Maddow Show on May 2, 2016, to comment on the relevance of the ad to the 2016 election.[4][5]

In July 2016, during the convention that nominated Donald Trump as the Republican presidential candidate, Bogert appeared in a reprise of the ad. "He scares me," Bogert said in the ad, echoing his comments about Goldwater 52 years before.[6]

He appeared in a remake of the advertisement produced by the Hillary Clinton campaign in July 2016 with alterations based on Trump's public statements on nuclear warfare.[8]
