@AshaRangappa_
All I can say is this:
Over the last seven years Ive had people call me a DEI hire to the FBI. Damn straight: I was (as far as I know) the first Indian American woman in the FBI, who speaks three languages (one that literally no one in the IC existed to even test me for), hired after 9/11 when these skills mattered.
The fact that I did not look like an FBI agent allowed me to participate in operations that gathered intelligence included in the Presidents Daily Brief.
My (immigrant) mom later became a contract linguist for the FBI, one of TWO speakers in the Bureau of a critical language needed to take down terrorists.
DEI means reflective of America. And Americas greatest strength especially compared to places like Russia and China is that it contains SO many unique backgrounds, skills, and perspectives unparalleled in the world.
Lets stop bring on the defensive. Bring on the DEI. 🙌🏽
Or in this case, the DE(S)I.

(120,150 posts)I can't figure out what's so terrible about any of those things. But it's the new Affirmative Action, the even newer CRT, just the latest way of saying N----- without getting in trouble.

(3,773 posts)white xtian identity politics. They complain that liberals, PoC, women etc are the ones fixated on identity - but it is really they who cannot cope with the 'defaultness' of the white xtian identity being challenged.
DEI selects for excellence - it is racism/sexism etc that protects the mediocre from having to compete with a wide array of people.

Is that line your own creation? Because I intend to use it, and to be honest about where I got it from!

(3,773 posts)variations of the line have been used on social media for awhile now.
We have to flip the RW narrative around, that it's the systems of privilege which create mediocrity, while the systems which challenge them create excellence. And it's easy to see that over the past 50 years of DEI that the American economy has grown by leaps and bounds.

(250 posts)We cannot begin to estimate the loss of talent, innovation, inspiration, and genius that was never allowed to flourish. DEI exists to prevent an abortion of contributions, both large and small but significant, that enhance culture and society. More importantly, DEI upholds human dignity. You would think conservatives would embrace bringing human endeavors to fruition.

The dRrump cult is fundamentally racist and sexist.
It is not economically disadvantaged. It is the opposite.
dRump has repackaged white male privilege into a potent movement, welcomed by aggrieved evangelicals, fear addled gun humpers, and incel loners.
All of these buzzwords are repackaged and toxified by the bullshit canons on the right and launched into the public forum forcing sane people to react, effectively living in their frame.
BREAK THE FRAME. Break the fourth wall. Ridicule them for their complete dishonesty.
Snowflakes melt in the heat.
We have reality on our side.
Do the work.

(122,824 posts)in 2020. (I think it was Clyburn) Biden got CBC support and AA voter support and Biden would pick a 'black woman' for VP in 2020. Same as any political deal. Like 'white men' only being in the running for Kamala Harris' VP. Not DEI. It is about power.
IronLionZion
(46,869 posts)because Obama needed an experienced white man. McCain chose Sarah Palin because he wanted a woman VP.

(55,334 posts)If you look down this list of VP possibles from 2020--there was no other candidate-candidate who had her combination of youth appeal, campaigning skills, demographic reach, resume, readiness to manage a crisis requiring a fill-in, and legislative accomplishments.
I think we should have policies promoting DEI in hiring. I think it makes us a stronger nation. But Harris outcompeted lots of men in her career without ever benefitting from DEI considerations.
