I disagree with James Carville.

He made statements seemingly saying Dems should tone down their enthusiasm.
trump has had the internet advantage. While we were scratching our heads trying to figure out how this guy appealed to so many, ( I know they like the bigotry), but I don’t think he would have had that broad appeal without social media and the internet at large. It reached people who were not engaged in politics before.

I never understood why everyone hailed him in the past. He's had nothing good to say about any Democrat since Clinton. I wish they would stop interviewing him on news shows, he hasn't been relevant to the party in over two decades.

If he was truly a political guru, he'd still be working for the Democrats. As it is, he works for himself.

Some selected quotes:

To be a contrarian, you've got to be a contrarian against your own people.
- James Carville

Ideologies aren't all that important. What's important is psychology.
- James Carville

We should not run away from religious teachings. We should run to them.
- James Carville

When you become famous, being famous becomes your profession.
- James Carville

And then there's this kind of doublespeak; which is the real James Carville, the millionaire or the middle class guy?

I would describe myself as having a healthy income, but I sure wouldn't describe the son of a postmaster and an encyclopedia saleswoman as upper class, by any stretch of the imagination. I would describe myself as decidedly middle class. I think I'm extremely fortunate.
- James Carville

I've had enough of giving millionaires like Dick Cheney and myself tax breaks and giving America's kids a mountain of debt.

He said we should understand that " The ice man cometh".

I would also argue that the enthusiasm - via internet posts, calls, memes, vlogs, etc will blunt what they will come with. You see it already with them trying to frame her - as being unserious by showing clips of her laughing. That's now being framed as it's good to be happy and joyful. Compare that to the darkness that trump brings. One can be a happy warrior.

something MVP Harris has in abundance and can be contagious. What folks are feeling now is hope and that is contagious too. We can have joy in the struggle, that is why she called herself a "joyful warrior" in the 2020 primary.

However, we should not get cocky/complacent (we need to do the work and get out the vote)..."when we fight, we win!"

Telling Democrats to tone it down. Delivered in his deadpan, bored sounding way. I half-way expected him to finish with a shaking fist ordering the kids to get off his lawn. James is entitled to his opinion, but after the summer we’ve had, why ask the Dems to not express enthusiasm for our candidate? That is how you build the enthusiasm, recruit volunteers and win races. Who wants to join a bunch of deadpan sour pusses? James obviously doesn’t want us to get the cart before the horse and celebrate before we’ve won. But come on. A bit of jubilant cheers for this turn of events to stop the handwringing is appropriate.

all our presidential candidates, as if he was the wizard of politics and had all the answers. Also, could not always understand him and he married Mary Matalin, George Bush's reelection campaign manager. She was also part of the GWBush administration, serving both as an assistant to the president and as a counselor to Vice President Dick Cheney. Always wondered how much info he was sharing with her.

Married her in 1993. She worked in the Bush administration until 2002.

24. 'Debbie Downer' James Carville bashed by MSNBC panel for panic over Kamala Harris

I stopped paying attention to Carville a while back.

https://www.rawstory.com/carville-kamala-harris/

Reacting to an appearance by veteran Democratic strategist James Carville on MSNBC Thursday night in which he attempted to pour cold water on enthusiasm for Vice President Kamala Harris, the panel on "Morning Joe" hammered him for underestimating what is going on.

With Carville giving a dark warning that Donald Trump and his allies are going to come after Harris hard with an avalanche of attacks, former Hillary Clinton spokesperson Jennifer Palmieri all but rolled her eyes and stated that his point was more than obvious — and he needed to dial down the doom.

"I don't understand why James has to be a Debbie Downer," the exasperated Palmieri complained. "I don't know why we need to step on our enthusiasm, seriously. Democrats are enthusiastic, they're excited to have an answer to the question about who is the best person to take on Donald Trump."

"I don't think anybody is unaware of how nasty the Republicans can get and that it is a difficult race," she continued while speaking to host Jonathan Lemire. "You know, the vice president has seen a big jump in polling, right? That's sort of what is hard, is the last two, three percentage points, right? That's what the whole game is about. "

"We've had really great week, her numbers are improving and I think it's true that the Republicans are caught off guard," she added. "They don't quite know how to attack her or, you know, what her ticket is going to end up being."

Delivery could have been a lot better, say it's a much needed break from the bleakness and it really looks like it reversed the momentum in our direction, but people need to be prepared to know the Rs will keep throwing shit at the wall and eventually the media will give in and legitimize it, and everyone needs to be ready to stand behind and fight for Kamala.

nothing about running a Presidential campaign in 2024's media environment. Like many of his generation, he is unable to understand that an enthusiastic, energetic, woman with a sense of humor can modulate her behavior to the situation. He actually seemed shocked that she gave a good presentation of her meeting with Bibi yesterday.
