Started talking about Kamala.
Our house hasnt talked much politics over the last month. My wife is quite glum about the whole thing.
My daughter was talking about Kamala this and Kamala that. I asked and she said instagram is awash in Kamala. I mentioned that Kamala didnt go to Netanyahus speech, She shouldnt have said my daughter. She mentioned the $81M in money raised and the volunteers. I mentioned AKA and how that many volunteers can make a big difference.
Shes very bright and she is registered to vote.
The level of enthusiasm is noticeable. My wife was still pessimistic. Finally I looked at my wife and said, I know you are disappointed in Joe
.but she has a very real chance at winning this. My daughter agreed.

(2,650 posts)Niece says the sitch is that most of her friends got sick of politics because they saw the GOP ruining their futures, and the Dems unable to stop them. And it was old white men vs old white men, so they were not going to vote. Until Kamala. They say its long past time for the old guard to step aside, and the new to come in, and that's Kamala. She speaks their language, their beliefs, their energy. They want their generation in power. And I think it is time for that.
And THEN I learned the Swifties are behind Kamala, too. This kind of reminds me of kicking an anthill... In a very good way.. Here they come en masse, from seemingly out of nowhere..

They love Kamala! Prosecutor v criminal for them. They read the Project 2025 overview, and they hate it!
They are excited she is a fighter against trump and the group funding 2025 against our country.
It was exciting to see, the excitement in the young crowd of males for Kamala.

(2,650 posts)I think that Joe decided to back out earlier than Sunday, It was brilliant of him to announce on Sunday, because it was an off news cycle day, the GOP had all their anti Joe crap locked and loaded, the anti Joe merch being shipped, and he just yanked the rug right out from under them. What's the word, "flabbergasted"? Trump was totally blindsided. And the GOP is on the defensive. All they have now is 4th grade taunts, racism and sexism, they are flailing and making themselves sound even more stupid. Kamala is keeping them on defense and, like all bullies, they don't know how to play defense.

You, who are on the road
Must have a code you try to live by
And so become yourself
Because the past is just a goodbye
Teach your children well
Their father's hell did slowly go by
Feed them on your dreams
The one they pick's the one you'll know by
Don't you ever ask them why
If they told you, you would cry
So just look at them and sigh
And know they love you
And you, of tender years
Can't know the fears your elders grew by
Help them with your youth
They seek the truth before they can die
Teach your parents well
Their children's hell will slowly go by
And feed them on your dreams
The one they pick's the one you'll know by
Don't you ever ask them why
If they told you, you would cry
So just look at them and sigh
And know they love you
Don't you ever ask them why
If they told you, you would cry
So just look at them and sigh
And know they love you
Ooh, and know they love you
And know they love you, yeah
And know they love you

(1,045 posts)Teach Your Children only made it to #8 on their all time list, but for me it was always my #1 pick. Perhaps it had to do with being newly married, my responsibility as a husband, or a short time later, as a Dad, resonating with me through our girls formative years. It still carries that same resonance almost 55 years later.

(3,921 posts)The typical person out there, especially amongst the young and apolitical types, did not like this race and wanted something different - and now they've got it. Harris always had alot of upside that is now being unlocked. Dems can't win without enthusiasm from PoC, women and youth - and now we see that energy rushing in. Many respect Biden but just felt like they wanted change - someone younger, different. So those voters feel like Dems did something that political parties never do - listen and take action. That alone will get votes.

(194,606 posts)I listen to talk radio and I see tweets about this grand conspiracy to replace Joe with Michelle at the Convention. Just last night I see that that scheister Vivek was on Hannity saying theres STILL a plan to replace Kamala with Michelle
whatever.
For all the talk, Trumps team appear to have been caught completely flat footed. Thats not really surprising knowing how much of an unorganized sloppy slob all of his echo chamber of sycophants his operations are. Several reports have come out from reputable sources that Trump et al were absolutely certain that they were winning by a landslide especially after the worshippy praise fest that was their convention. The Vance pick was based on their belief that this was over and it didnt really matter.
They had absolutely no plan B for something thats been a fixture of their media.

His other friends chimed in with yeah! while my son said, "this vote is about character, law and order, and our Democracy. You either have integrity or you don't and I don't want to see you flying any American flag off the back of your truck, if your thinking about a guy who said he wants to be a dictator, did you read the Project 2025 overview I sent you? (165,192 posts)Yes - my youngest niece who is 18, registered, and voted here in PA in the primary, has been forwarding Instagrams and TikToks and all kinds of memes that have "flooded their zones". They are NOT on Facebook, which they consider "old people stuff". I have no accounts on any of those apps and can really only read what gets posted that will allow me a view or two (my sister does have those types of accounts to monitor though).
THAT is how they communicate and express themselves (something I try to tell DUers when it comes to questions about "where are the ads????" ).
They are very "visual" and use images and video clips of specific circumstances or experiences, as analogies for what they are thinking about at the moment vs putting that down into text-based paragraphs on a page.
Just have to make sure that they follow through and are determined enough to jump the barriers that the GOP most certainly will put before them.

(4,675 posts)I keep seeing on the news that the "gap between Trump & Kamala is narrowing." It has happened VERY quickly. I think we have bigger momentum than we even realize. I supported Joe 150% but always did like Kamala. I live in San Francisco and was here when she was District Attorney.
The fact that young people are supporting Kamala is not surprising. Repigs have NOTHING to offer today's youth. I cannot think of one single reason a young person would vote for a repig unless they were brainwashed by religion.
I think we will soon see Kamala pull ahead, but I DO know it will still be a close election, and I will not rest easy until Cheeto is defeated.

(31,097 posts)many of us cycled through all those stages within hours. I hope your wife can see how FUCKING ALIVE this campaign is. President Biden made a huge sacrifice but his judgment through the years has been far better than most, and the decision had to be his. I respect that, and what has occurred since then (over 100,000 people called in for a zoom meeting White Women for Kamala! biggest zoom call ever), the energy and enthusiasm that's been generated...yes she can win, and she will. I believe she will.
My oldest son has historically been primarily apolitical and equally cynical about both parties. not anymore. Usually when we talk i'm the one going on and on about it but today, while we were discussing something completely different, he just burst out, "She is going to KICK HIS FUCKING ASS!"
