Kevin Roberts, architect of Project 2025, has close ties to radical Catholic group Opus Dei

Heritage Foundation leader has long received spiritual guidance from group and his policy goals align with its teachings

What is Project 2025 and what is Trump’s involvement?

Kevin Roberts, the Heritage Foundation president and the architect of Project 2025, the conservative thinktank’s road map for a second Trump presidency, has close ties and receives regular spiritual guidance from an Opus Dei-led center in Washington DC, a hub of activity for the radical and secretive Catholic group.

Roberts acknowledged in a speech last September that – for years – he has visited the Catholic Information Center, a K Street institution headed by an Opus Dei priest and incorporated by the archdiocese of Washington, on a weekly basis for mass and “formation”, or religious guidance. Opus Dei also organizes monthly retreats at the CIC.

In the speech – which he delivered at the CIC and was recorded and is available online – Roberts spoke candidly about his strategy for achieving extreme policy goals that he supports but are out of step with the views of a majority of Americans.

Outlawing birth control is the “hardest” political battle facing conservatives in the future, the 50-year-old political strategist said, but he urged conservatives to pursue even small legislative victories – what he called “radical incrementalism” – to advance their most rightwing policy objectives.

And I have no use for religion in politics.

That said, I think this is a mischaracterization. It's my impression that Opus Deu is a splinter group that does not represent the Catholic Church, nor does it represent most Catholics. After all, President Biden is Catholic and he certainly doesn't subscribe to Opus Dei's positions or viewpoint.

Bill Barr is a member of Opus Dei, and I would not be surprised if Thomas, Alito, and Roberts are also members. Their goal seems to be total rule by the most right- wing Catholics with the same power as ayatollahs in Muslim countries like Afghanistan and Iran. Constitutional rights for women, minorities, and LGBTQ+ would be eliminated.

8. The only reason I didn't list her is that Opus Dei is a male-dominated secret organization.

If they allow females to join, then Ginni Thomas and Amy Barrett are most likely members. Who knows about Gorsuch and Kavanaugh, but both are protégés of Leonard Leo.

...are the kind of things advocated every day on EWTN, (Ir)-Relevant Radio, and the other radtrad Catholic media organizations. There is a significant Opus Dei presence inside all of those groups, although I don't believe any of them were actually founded by OD. (It's possible that Relevant Radio might be connected to OD). But a lot of the leadership at these organizations is known to be OD. And the Catholic Information Center on K Street is most definitely run by OD. A few years ago, Fr C John McCloskey, the rector at the time, was known for the numerous conversions of right-wing media personalities (Laura Ingraham, Newt Gingrich, and many others). McCloskey also had a show on EWTN. Then came the scandals, for which EWTN is infamous. (McCloskey is not the first).
