Pete as Secretary of State?

I would love to see Pete as VP; however, the Veep position is often in the shadows. He would be the perfect Secretary of State. He is brilliant, an excellent communicator, possesses top-notch problem-solving skills, he is multilingual, and he readily gains people's trust. He would absolutely shine on a world stage. Frankly, he would bring his fabulous skills to whatever position to which he was appointed. If he is not the VP candidate, I hope he would be chosen for Secretary of State.

Besides, I dont think Pete Buttigieg would risk the future of democracy in America to be Harris' vp choice. I guarantee that she and her advisors will be looking for a vp choice who has the real potential to bring her some electoral votes and it won't be him.

Issue, however, with Warren and Whitehouse is taking them out of the Senate…I think both their seats stay Dem but their replacements will be up again in 2026.

It makes more sense to keep Anthony Blinken for foreign policy continuity. Besides, as much as I think Pete is awesome, have you listened to Blinken? He’s awesome too. Don’t throw away that talent!

I'm just desperately hoping that Pete will be an integral part of the Harris Administration. Don't know why I'm worried as he has more than proven his worth and sane people want him to have a prominent position in government. He is an absolute gem.

If Blinken steps down, etc. Pete with his intellect, charm and multiple languages would be a natural. He's a natural facilitator/negotiator as well.

I really like the job Blinkin has done. But Pete would be an excellent choice. Kamala is close to Susan Rice, however, so it'd be weird if she was passed over.

All Cabinet secretaries turn in their resignations at a change of administrations, and the new president has the option of rehiring them or not. But considering the delicacy of the Israel-Gaza situation and the war in Ukraine, Harris would be insane to give up Blinken, with all his experience and contacts, for anyone else, even someone as smart as Buttigieg - who has no foreign policy experience at all. The world is too messy right now to make such a change.

I'd be shocked if Buttegieg literally has NO experience in foreign relations. DOT deals with shipping and global air travel, foreign and domestic import/export laws, international trade questions about the ships & planes we sell overseas. Plus he sits on the cabinet, which reviews all major foreign policies.

I didn't know it for a fact but I'll bet he's a member of the Foreign Policy Association, too.

On the other hand, Blinkin is Biden's man, has been for over a decade. We shouldn't assume that Harris has no foreign policy vision and that she shouldn't have her own leader at State to implement. "serves at the pleasure of" and all that.

SOS if Blinken stepped down.

In general, I also like the idea of continuity for a bit. As was mentioned, there's been a lot going on lately.

What about Chief of Staff? From what I remember from watching the West Wing, the right hand person to the President. Great training for when he is President.

My first thought was SOS, to gain international experience, but CofS would keep him home more for those sweet kids in their tender years. Just a thought.

I agree SOS is too much travel for a parent with young children.
COS keeps him in one spot.
