Manhattan District Attorney Slams Trump's Immunity Argument

In a new filing from the Manhattan District Attorney's Office, the DA argues that Justice Merchan should reject Donald Trump's motion to vacate his New York conviction following the recent Supreme Court immunity opinion.

Previously, Trump filed a motion to vacate his recent New York conviction following the immunity opinion on the grounds that the Manhattan District Attorney improperly based its prosecution of Trump on evidence of official acts, which the Supreme Court has since barred from use in a prosecution of a former or current President.

However, in the new filing, the District Attorney slams Trump's arguments, noting that "the Supreme Court's recent ruling . . . has nothing to say about defendant's conviction" because any evidence introduced of official acts is "a sliver of the mountains of testimony and documentary proof" that was introduced.

Following the Supreme Court opinion, Justice Merchan delayed Trump's July 11th sentencing to the middle of September, to the extent it would still be needed following Trump's motion to vacate. Merchan is now expected to release an opinion on the issue in early September prior to the sentencing date.
