Has anyone heard about the closure of Russian Airspace?

My son is finishing up two months in China on an art fellowship, and is traveling with a Canadian colleague.

He says that she has to return to Canada via Japan because Russia has closed its air space.

I don't see anything in the news about it. Has anyone heard this?

(It won't affect my son. My son will be coming through Asia minor, and will not travel over Russia.)

And in particular a Youtube channel called nyprepper. This guy tracks everything going on. It's always hyperventilated coverage, so you think it's the end of the world listening to him. That said, the person running the channel appears to be well informed and very enthusiastic about tracking events. Just be aware that everything sounds dangerous.

If they had to land in Russia for any reason it’s very likely the Russians would confiscate the airplane because they have an extreme shortage of spare parts due to the embargo. Plus, who knows how long the passengers and crew might be stuck there; it’s not worth the risk.
