(1,406 posts)What Trump did later in the day in PA was strategy. His behavior at NABJ was that of an unhinged racist old goof. Don't give Trump credit for being a loon.
BumRushDaShow
(152,671 posts)Except that he was an hour late arriving to the venue near our state capital (where they hold the annual "PA Farm Show" ), people were passing out due to heat exhaustion while waiting, he apparently rambled on for 90 minutes, bringing up the Hannibal Lecter nonsense, and his "attendees" left early.

(1,884 posts)Good luck with that. NOBODY tells that national disgrace what to do. In a perfect world, he will lose the election, be sent to prison and be told what to do and have to do it.

(6,827 posts)I live in Michigan and love Pete. The country is not ready for a gay VP. I hope he runs for governor when Gov Whitmer's term ends in 2026. We need Pete here.

(323 posts)Again, underscoring that I say this with respect:
Millennials and GenZ are mobilized like never before, and they (along with younger GenX) are the most LGBTQ2SIA+ friendly generations in history! The world has changed, and young people love Pete! I think continuing what Kamala started and adding Pete to the ticket would ignite enthusiasm to new heights, create a seismic shift among younger voters, leading to record turnout, potentially transforming a blue wave into a blue tsunami! 🌊
Again, I respect your opinion, but we can def agree to disagree on this, with respect.

(24,405 posts)I am weary of were not ready. I cant imagine how weary folks in marginalized communities feel waiting for the rest of the country to be ready for them to rise to their potential.

(8,507 posts)And 86% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents were open to voting for a gay presidential candidate, but only 36% thought the country as a whole would be ready.
So your thinking is in line with the majority of Americans--even the majority of Democrats--but it turns out that we're better than that!

(109,751 posts)He'll do the speaking, regardless, but he could be even more effective as the VP choice. Yeah, I've not made a personal pick, feeling comfortable with leaving that to Harris, but I don't mind saying Buttigieg is up there among the top two I'd be favoring.

He continued, When I ran for president, part of how I won Iowa was that I wound up doing especially well in right-leaning and conservative counties, these counties that voted for Obama and then voted for Trump.
So what that tells me is whoever you are and whatever your personal biography or attributes are, if you can explain to people what you have to offer and get them to believe in you and your vision, Buttigieg said, despite all of the things that stand in the way of fairness in this country, the truth is its extraordinary what people can and will do.

(109,751 posts)Just as Kamala Harris is nothing like the preconceived notions of some...
'Hard to say... I think that few of us would have foreseen Harris getting the reception that she is and has. And there is negative scrutiny for all the VP candidates--good as they are. So... ???

(8,372 posts)(when they are real) to make believe they are wide spread while they're not (and far from that).
He doesn't care about the fact that they are isolated incidents, when they are real and not completely made up, to score political points. I want journalists to fact check him every time he uses them and educate his gullible cultists about how isolated incidents (when they're real and not just fabricated lies) are not the scare he wants them to believe they are.
He's a weird troll for his own personal gain, and without any fact check on the spot, he gets away with his constant demagoguery.
For example: He said Kamala didn't pass the Bar exam and nobody said the truth about she passed it the second time because it's a really difficult test, nothing like "person, man, woman, camera, teevee" like...
He's a weird orange clown from the never-enough-money's ruling class.

(514 posts)This was a deliberate and calculated disaster, he got the attention back on him, not on Vance and Harris.
He also refuses to appear unless there is NO fact-checking. The press needs to stop falling for his demands. This man loves a camera and will do anything to be in front of hit

There is no strategic thought in play here.

(14,695 posts)If you can saturate some of the public's brains with confusion, lies, dog whistles, false fears, deceptions and conflicts, many will give up and vote for the authoritarian every time.
It first reared its ugly head in my lifetime with Nixon's Southern Strategy and Goldwater's militaristic fearmongering.
Kudos to Pete for calling out these political thugs.
