"Moderate GOP" are saying trump should stick to the issues

Problem with that is they have no issues. Economy? The border that they caved to Trump on? Trump knows this, so he's going with the racist stuff.

I'll translate their mealy mouthed comments: I want tax breaks for my benefactors so I will support everything he does, but I will "speak out" when some of his words are too icky and might reflect badly on me.

I've been saying the same since yesterday.
We're not talking about a strategic thinker here.
He's just an idiot with impulse control issues who, as an accident of birth, got a national podium.
