(343 posts)You mean the "lifestyle" of being who you are?

(22,511 posts)The problem, as I see it, is that those who label being lgbtq as a "lifetyle" are misusing the word due to their own ignorance.
It blows my mind that so many people
still think one's sexuality is a choice and that we can all just be whatever we decide to be.

(4,403 posts)When I was in school, we were taught even if the patient was a convicted rapist, murderer, pedophile or any other disgusting type, you were to treat them professionally without prejudice . Their character was not relevant in the quality of care you offered.

(5,445 posts)A couple of generations ago, particularly in the South, medical services were granted or withheld on the basis of race. A black man would be allowed to die in a hospital parking lot, rather than be admitted to a 'white' hospital.

These pregnant women are told to leave the hospital. If you've never experienced a miscarriage you just dont know! Ive had one too many. I couldnt imagine being treated like these women were and are continuing to be so.

(5,827 posts)you treat the person in front of you. Only the condition of the body (or mind, in mental health situations) is pertinent; everything else is irrelevant.

(12,599 posts)If doctors get to pick and choose who should receive their medical attention based on their religion, then very few people in prison would receive medical attention.
They already pick and choose patients based on the patient's wealth and ability to pay for the doctor's services.

The professors response is exactly what Ive been saying ever since W signed that misbegotten law. Yes, it was aimed at Plan B and birth control pills, but you had to know it would be extended.

(114,555 posts)especially if you work in health care. You have to be prepared to deliver care to somebody who raped and murdered a little kid as well as Jesus jumpers who think a hospital is a great place to find new converts...starting with you.
You see all kinds in healthcare, it's a large part of what keeps things interesting. The thread that ties them all together is that they are all human beings, whether or not they have major and/or dangerous screws loose, and they're hurting and they came to you for help.
Anyone who can't see that doesn't belong anywhere near health care, and that first and foremost means right wing Christians, especially those in politics or standing in pulpits. They are supremely unqualified for the job.

Most stores have a sign saying "We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone"
Those specific bigots should be refused all food, and oxygen.
