David Lurie: Kamala Harris is cutting off Trump's political oxygen

https://www.publicnotice.co/p/kamala-harris-strategy-for-dealing-with-trump

Kamala Harris is succeeding in accomplishing something none of Donald Trump’s adversaries have since 2016: Turning off his political oxygen supply by refusing to engage with his manufactured spectacles of insults and taunts, or with the often wholly substance-free issues that preoccupy the press.

As last Thursday’s CNN interview of Harris and her running mate Tim Walz made clear, she’s resolutely unwilling to let the press — or Trump himself — set the agenda for her presidential campaign. In the process, she’s managed to blunt the tools Trump has repeatedly used to undermine his opponents: drawing them into responding to his schoolyard slights, and turning the media’s pursuit of purportedly “legitimate” questions about his opponents — many of them formulated by GOP partisans — into political weapons.

Harris’s refusal to engage with Trump on his terms represents a break from how Democrats traditionally have dealt with him. In related news, her favorables continue to rise while an obviously flustered Trump flails at ghosts and searches in vain for a smear campaign that will allow him to regain the initiative.

For years now, Trump has made an art of luring his opponents to wrestle with him in the mud of his racist and misogynist insults and attacks. As a result, Trump has been able to neutralize the impact of (and sometimes even benefit from) his own vile activities and attributes.

and the incompetence/malfeasance of the press I've read yet.

As last week’s CNN interview demonstrated, Harris has learned from Clinton’s experiences. Instead of accepting Bash’s framing and “admitting” that she had “flip-flopped,” Harris stated repeatedly that her “values have not changed.” Indeed, as Harris asserted, her willingness to alter her positions on certain matters when presented with new evidence and new realities demonstrates a consistent adherence to her “values,” not a willingness to compromise them.

The result? Bash’s line of questioning lost its punch for much the same reason that her effort to bait Harris to engage with Trump’s racist taunts failed: because Harris has refused to play by the tired old rules.

It’s hardly a coincidence that over the past several weeks, the power of the press to impact the tenor and focus of the presidential campaign — and the power of Trump to do the same — has been suddenly thrown into question. By refusing to engage with Trump’s taunts or play by journalists’ rules, Harris has upended presumptions about politics that have dominated during most of the past decade. And that’s a good thing.

Until these feckless "journalists" gain some integrity.

She's jumped into the cab and is kicking the crooks out of the driver's seat and already has control over the steering wheel. When her butt is in the driver's seat, we're going to hit the highway to a more perfect union.

And I'm happy to help push them out the door.

Dana Bash should be ashamed of herself but then, she's only one of many who are inhabiting the same space in the sewer pipe.

Not letting the 'press/media' more than the convicted felon dictate her campaign is what has frustrated both of them. Especially the press, no interviews, where they can take something out of context really bothers them. Believe they also fear that when elected there will be less presidential interviews for them. She has shown them (press/media) she doesn't need them. IMO

that the press is overwhelming pro-tRUMP and wouldn't give her / Kamala the time of day. Don't give the animals any ammo until they start playing fair. And like she said (or shown them), she doesn't need them.

And lord and behold, she's absolutely right. For example, I can't remember the last time I read a newspaper or watched a old-time newscast (I do of course, read DU heavily) but that's it. And rarely, if I get down to our place in the Ozarks, I grab one of the local 4-page newspapers, there's something about these small-town newspapers that I just get a kick out of reading.

...Biden took him straight on and whooped his a$$! So there is more than one way to beat this fool.
He is not the steamroller, election winner, that he and the MSM want to intimidate us into thinking he is.
The only election he has won since 2016, was 2016, and he lost that election to Hillary by 3 MILLION VOTES (and squeaked out an electoral college "victory" aided by the Russian government-never let this loser forget that.)

of the Congress person Harris. The one who used her prosecutorial skill to trap people who were trying to evade her questions.
So he's going to try to put on a clown show, act like a 4th grader, overtalk, pose, insult, and hope he will win. Trump can't even stay on topic for 3 sentences, much less an hour. Everyone is tired of the act of his act. Time to put the senile old man in a rest home.

it might have been just the Access Hollywood thing, or things before that. It wasn't that they responded to it, it was that they were making the campaign about it. Maybe someone remembers, did they run ads with the Access Hollywood tape?

I remember not liking it, thinking aren't ads supposed to be strategic? How can it be strategic if it's about things that just came up?

I too love acronyms, and usually use "nt" to signify No Text for this use case: "No Further Message"
but nfm is good too, just new to me

( and my experience dates back to bulletin boards, Usenet, ICQ, etc. LOL)

Note its top meaning (first of 27 known ones)

1- She's go no baggage. Sure they'll pick apart her record durng her DA days, but she's addressed them all and she operated within the constraints of the law as it allowed her to
2- She's darn brilliant with answers, and communicates so effectively
3- Her credentials are impeccable, and her background a reflection of what America's middleclass looks like. Like Obama, she's an example of what can be achieved if you work hard
4- She has been FIRST in many positions - long list here so i won't mention, and so adept at achieving what she sets out to do
5- She's not afraid to counterpunch hard and go for the jugular, unlike Biden & Hillary. She's not afraid of this small man, why shouldn't she give him what he deserves when he's trying to bully her to cover his insecurities?

The other side's candidate? A convicted felon, a conman, a corrupt, failed businessman who cheated the ppl he worked with, a legal rapist, and a morally bankrupt, greedy narcissist. There's really no comparison here.
