I have been using that term ever since I first hesrd the term „African-Americans.“ I thought to myself, „hmm, what does that make me, then?“

If your ancestors were living on some other continent for a few millenia prior to the 15th century, then your origins are from that continent, not North America. It‘s nothing to be ashamed of any more than being born with five fingers on each hand. But, like having five fingers on each hand, it‘s no less true.

Anyone from the tip of South America to Alaska is an American. That can break some people’s minds also.

Then go on to remind them it’s United States of America. Empathizing OF.
