Florida health agency campaigns against abortion-rights ballot measure

TALLAHASSEE, Florida — A Florida health care regulatory agency has launched a website to attack a ballot initiative asking voters to expand abortion access in November, as Republicans in the state try to rally opposition against it.

The Florida Agency for Health Care Administration, which regulates the 49 licensed abortion clinics in the state, released the new “Florida is Protecting Life” website on Thursday. The site is in response to a ballot initiative that will appear before voters as Amendment 4, which seeks to wipe out restrictions including the state’s newly enacted ban on abortion after six weeks of pregnancy.

The website tells viewers not to “let the fearmongers lie to you.”

“Current Florida Law Protects Women, Amendment 4 Threatens Women’s Safety,” a message at the top of the website says.

...especially when that agency is clearly politicized.

I hope the clinics themselves can put out a joint statement against the state-provided propaganda, and not have Desantis's jackbooted thugs come down on them for doing so.

The agency is responsible for executing the laws enacted through the legislative or initiative process. I would be very, very, surprised if there weren't regulations that bar this kind of political activity.

Here's the Agency for Health Care Administration Org Chart:

Kimberly SMOAK, Deputy Secretary for Health Care Policy & Oversight --> Division of Transparency and Provider Outreach -->

Whatever the mission/remit the Division of Transparency and Provider Outreach may have, this politicking is undoubtedly an abuse of it. As the person responsible, seems to me Ms. SMOAK needs to hear from Floridians who object to such misuse of public funds.

Think about what DeSantis is doing then multiply it. The maga republicans try to do the same thing wherever they are. Right now saying maga republicans is a redundancy. Maga, republican, conservative, or whatever they are called it’s all the same. So far only a handful of elected republicans have spoken out and they lose their seats. Maga is baked into the republican party now. I’m hoping it will be a wipeout.
