Teachers Throughout Oklahoma Defy GOP Orders and Refuse to Teach the Bible in Class

Teachers and school districts across Oklahoma are openly defying orders from Republican State Superintendent of Public Instruction Ryan Walters to teach Bible lessons in public school classrooms.

Walters’ mandate to force Bible lessons on students comes as many Republican-led states have pushed for more religion — specifically Christianity — in public schools.

Back in June, Walters issued a memo that directed all schools in Oklahoma to begin to incorporate the Bible and the Ten Commandments into class lessons.

This mandate pushed for these lessons to be taught in all public school classrooms from grades five through 12.

The Bible-- and any other religious texts-- do not belong in public school classrooms. Schools are for teaching facts and arts. Religion belongs in a house of worship. Period.

These teachers deserve support.

which could have lessened resistance to his scheme. But providing that would necessitate him actually reading the Bible instead of beating people with it.

The Bible is a disgustingly immoral book.

Speak out about how well TSF knows Jeffrey Epstein and make certain the kids repeat that to their parents.

Many of our right wing brethren want to put forced public prayer and the Bible back in the schools.

They have no qualms about using the gov't to foist their own religious beliefs on the children in public schools without letting the parents decide how they want their children raised.

Once a week at approximately 2pm children, whose parents had coordinated with the school, were released to go to their churches for lessons given by the church. Those children who didn’t belong to a church spent the rest of the afternoon in a study period at the school.

I never thought anything about this because it was just the normal way we did things. But it allowed for religious lessons according to the individual child’s faith.

I don’t know WHEN it ended, but in my opinion this is the only way religion should be taught… with the parents permission and by the churches… not by schools who will only teach according to one specific faith…and a narrow-minded and corrupt one at that!

The Protestant kids got let out early once a week for their religious instructions, but us Catholics had to wait for the regular school day to end to go to our religious instructions. We didn't think it was fair back then.

. . . OUr teacheres had to open the dayh with prayer and bible reading.

Our home room teacher gave us one minute of silence in which we could sit still and do as we please.

He then did the bible reading -- it was all those verses from Genesis 5, the “begats.”

“The begats” is a listing of generations from Adam to Noah. It was repetitious and boring. In each generation, it says someone was born, had kids, lived awhile longer and they died. This repeats nine times.

https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Genesis%205&version=NIV

Damn near memorized the Begats after a few weeks after which the class would recite as he read . . . ROTFL our asses off all the while.

Have a class teaching Bible absurdities; talking snakes and donkies, walking on water, a world wide flood (where did the water go?) along with 100's of other examples of biblical idiocy:

Country.

The GOP has been taken over by extreme right fundamentalists, and no longer represent the GOP of old.

The old 'GOP' has been broken into two parties ... right-wing fundamentalists (or right-wing nutcases), and the original GOP (what remains of it that is still there, that actually still believes in give and take, to pass bills in legislative chambers in along w/ Democrats too).

So, in effect, tRUMP has resurrected somewhat the old George Wallace party of old, but with a republican (ultra-right slant to it) vs. the democratic leanings of yesteryear w/ G. Wallace.

The result of this breakup is going to be exactly the same as back then in the George Wallace days, and we can see it happening in real life today. We see republicans of all stripes, casting aside their old antagonistic views of the Democratic party, and siding w/ Democrats/Harris across the board, joining w/ other Americans who do not want this deranged fruitcake tRUMP back into the WH. We all jointly agree that the American way of life, vs. party is far more important (and I agree w/ them).

As back then, in the Wallace days the tRUMP 3rd party may win some states but will overwhelming lose many other states as a result of the new Democratic/former GOP Union that has joined together for Country, not party. A truly American and patriotic endeavor indeed.

Now is time to put aside old party animosities and hostilities and beat back this pathetic viral attack on our long-established rule of law and way of life in electing our leaders. Destroy all things tRUMP, and those that support him wholeheartedly and make them sign a new oath to the US Constitution, for they are advocating rebellion, or throw them in jail for a min. amount of time. They did this after the Civil War and we need to do it again, to ensure that the payment to destroy the Union is indeed costly for those that attempt it. Colorado had it right. We must take some severe steps to ensure that this never happens again, that a renegade billionaire ever attempts this again (and their followers).

Kids studying the Bible is risky..the kids may actually read it.
