OMAHA — Mitch Landrieu, who helped implement the bipartisan infrastructure bill of 2021 that he said is sending $2.6 billion to Nebraska, stopped in the 2nd District Friday as part of his new job stumping for Vice President Kamala Harris.

Landrieu, the former New Orleans mayor and ex-lieutenant governor of Louisiana, is co-chair of Harris’ presidential campaign, one of President Joe Biden’s former campaign staffers who shifted to Harris when Biden chose not to run.

He held an hourlong meeting with small business owners at Kitchen Table in downtown Omaha, where he discussed Harris’ plans to help entrepreneurs get capital and tax relief.

He highlighted her proposal to increase the tax deduction for business startups to $50,000 from $5,000. He also said Harris wants to make it easier for small businesses to take the standard deduction to reduce paperwork when filing taxes.

CNN: "Blue Wall" Strategy Doesn't Work Without The "Blue Dot" -- Single Electoral Vote In Omaha, Nebraska Could Be Tie-Breaker In Razor Thin Election

CNN's Jeff Zeleny reports how Democrats' "blue wall" strategy doesn't work unless they also win the "blue dot," the second district of Nebraska -- one of two states that allocates electoral votes by Congressional district.

If Harris wins the swing states of Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania, and Trump wins Nevada, Arizona, North Carolina, and Georgia, the area surrounding Omaha will determine the difference between Harris winning with exactly 270 electoral votes and a 269-269 tie.

JEFF ZELENY, CNN: For all the talk of the "blue wall" of winning Pennsylvania, winning Michigan, and winning Wisconsin. All those are essential for winning the White House, but that leaves you one electoral vote short.

If everything else would stay the same and the Harris campaign would win the "blue wall" states, they still need the "blue dot." The "blue dot" is found right here in Omaha, at least Democrats hope it will be. Nebraska and Maine are the only two states in the country that divide their electoral votes. That means she could win one electoral vote here in the Omaha area and not win the rest of the state and still get that one electoral vote.

Joe Biden did in 2020, Barack Obama did in 2008. So for all the talk of the "blue wall," it doesn't work without the "blue dot" from right here in Omaha.
