About Republicans
As weve now said on our first-ever About Us page on our website, theres something unique about humankinds relationship with spices that time and again have caused spices to be a driving force for change. We live in a time calling out for change and for solutions to the very real problems our country and our planet face. Theres two very different futures ahead for us totally dependent on whether we solve these problems or not. With so much at stake we feel obligated to use the unique position spices hold in our lives to try to help promote the solutions to these problems as best we can.
Watching the slow decline of the Republican Party over the last half century, and the steep decline/bottom falling out over the last decade, it can be easy to see the nonsense that has overtaken the party as pretty much random. Once you start seriously looking at the problems America and the world face and who and what are standing in the way of solving those problems, it quickly becomes clear there is nothing random to what the Republicans are promoting.
I don't go to that site very often, so I don't know how long that has been up. This statement is definitely worth the read.

(35,488 posts)We only have one Penzey's Spice store in Pittsburgh and it's in the Strip district. Whenever I'm down in the Strip I try to stop in there. Penzey's is the kind of business that I like to support, even if their spices are higher than the discount stores. The fact that the family owners are also great Democrats is another plus.

(5,582 posts)Sign up on their site for their email newsletter. Almost always has some good anti-tRump stuff, along with recipes, and a lot of great deals. (I'm still using some of the $50 gift cards I bought for $35...which are even good on their sale price items, making it even more affordable!). Great company to support. Here's the link to sign up for their email: https://www.penzeys.com/sign-up-for-email/
Most of my spice drawer and rack are filled with various Penzey's spices and blends, and the ones I use the most I try to buy in larger bags to refill the jars. My only complaint about them is that they closed our beloved Seattle area store (first in downtown, then they moved to Lynnwood, then they closed), but they had valid reasons. Their online mail order works very well, but I miss being able to sniff the various samples but mostly to be able to interact with the amazing people that they had staffing their store. I really miss them.
(That reminds me - I need to go and place an order soon, since I'm almost out of several things, and completely out of 2 or 3 of my most heavily-used ones.)
If you make it down to Portland, they have a great store off 82nd, in a strip mall, down by Clackmas Town Center. It's worth going in there just to take in the smells!
Good quality spices.

(4,231 posts)of spices as a Yule present one year. Fell in love with the spices. Although I have very little disposable income, I just gave them an order for a few spices for myself, and got a Teacher's Gift Box for my sister for Xmas this year. Thanks for reminding me of these people! I even signed up as a registered user to their site. I also sent them a "Thank you" email... for not only their excellent spice blends, but also for supporting hope, love, and democracy.
Thanks again for the reminder!

(181 posts)Bill Penzey is one amazing HUMAN and my husband and I buy from his company all the time! I keep spice tins and we buy bulk bags for refill. Seriously - - they dont come any better than BILL!! And the spices are top-notch and pungent and remarkable!!!
I lived near one of their brick and mortars in Columbus, Ohio and would frequent it often. We have also visited one of the St. Louis stores. But living in rural WV, we place our orders online. And we order often.
As a business owner myself in a small village I have to remain SOOOO silent about my political views because so many folks - - our store tribe with the best vibe - - depend on my leadership to make sure they have paychecks and occasional hushed up financial help and bonuses, etc. My company is micro. We make it happen for each other every single day.
So I applaud and applaud and applaud and support and support and support family owned businesses who can JUMP OUT IN FRONT and speak truth to corruption and greed. Because I just cant. It could HURT too many. Bill does all of that and MORE!!
If ya know any foodies, and if they arent familiar with Penzeys, its time for you to introduce this remarkable company to them.
Bills emails and messages are amazing and inspiring.

(726 posts)We've bought in store and ordered online. I regularly gift my husband and son Penzey gift cards. As long as we've shopped there, (over a decade at least,) they have been Dems. I have to make my own bread because of soy issues, and their caraway seeds are the best. Elevates my rye bread from good to fantastic. Their caraway seeds are so fragrant and delicious. I highly recommend their spices AND their politics!

I love giving and and being given saffron - such a luxury. Their Vietnamese cinnamon is very sweet, and the Ceylon cinnamon is citrusy.
Just enjoying the happy thoughts. Good luck with your shopping!

took a break from debate prep and visited Penzeys Spices in Pittsburgh on Saturday. When she entered the store, the vice president greeted a woman who appeared near tears as they hugged.
Harris assured her that things would work out. Were all in this together, she said.

A week after Donald Trump was elected the forty-fifth President of the United States, Bill Penzey sent an e-mail to a few thousand people. The open embrace of racism by the Republican Party in this election is now unleashing a wave of ugliness unseen in this country for decades, he wrote. The American people are taking notice. Lets commit to giving the people a better choice. The recipients werent friends or colleagues or the fellow-members of an activist group. They were customerssubscribers to the mailing list of Penzeys Wisconsin-based company, Penzeys Spices, which, with an online store and sixty-five retail locations, is Americas largest independent spice retailer. At the end of the message, he mentioned the companys Thanksgiving specials, including a gift box of four mini-jars of spices for ten dollars.
(snip)
For customers who preferred their cardamom pods without a side of flaming liberal politics, another spice company awaited with open arms. A few days after Penzeys e-mails exploded onto the national stage, the Spice House, another Wisconsin-based retailer, posted a message on its own Facebook page. My husband and I are very careful to never bring politics or personal opinions into our spice company, they have no business there, Patty Erd, who owns the Spice House with her husband, Tom, wrote. Never mind that the spice trade itself is one of the most intensely political industries in history, or that staying out of politics is, of course, its own kind of political statement. Heck, I would not even want to get into a subjective debate over which cinnamon is the best! Erd wrote. It may have been mere coincidence that she chose to single out cinnamon only days after the meticulous kitchen testers at Cooks Illustrated had named Penzeys Spices Vietnamese varietal their pick for the best on the market, praising its big, spicy flavor and high percentage of volatile aromatic compounds. It was not, however, a coincidence that Erd felt the need to distance her business from Penzeys: the two of them are siblings.

Electing Kamala Harris president would save our democracy and give our planets environment a fighting chance to not melt down for a thousand years to come. For these two reasons alone everyone should vote for her.
But watch the video. Shes put in a lifetime of work to become the person she is, the person we need. After her visit the Pittsburgh Post Gazette had this: Ms. Harris will face former President Trump in their first and likely only debate of the campaign Tuesday evening. Saturday afternoon, Ms. Harris said her favorite part of the debate preparations was getting to visit Penzeys, according to pool reports.
