(15,429 posts)It pays to be prepared and have a plan B in case of compliance refusal. That goes for ANY Republican who shows up at my door.

(7,789 posts)Its true on our side too.
You do not argue and try to convince people. Your goal is to drive up the vote, not convert people to vote for your candidate, that is the job of the candidate and surrogates.
Usually, you are sent to areas where the odds of running into a Magat are low because again, as a democrat they send you to areas that are dem or leaning dem/independent to drive up the vote.
When you do run into a person who is upset at you, you just leave without arguing.

(15,429 posts)I have no desire for polite dialogue with any Republican. I stay off their porch they need to stay off mine.

(24,526 posts)I canvassed in Milwaukee.
I'm not amused.
Better to debate on the facts. You never know, it might have been the first time the young man had ever been confronted with the truth. Give him something to think about at least.
Still, it sounds like the homeowner has had her fill of stupid and is well within her right to do as she did.

(395 posts)that he will suffer from a lot of "ghost canvassing"---
paid canvassers who claim they are doing the job, but really are not--
because of responses like that one. Who wants to live their life like that?
just like many GOP candidates have recently been suffering
from false ballot petitioning and actual signature fraud,
and were denied ballot spots because of it, particularly in Michigan in 2022...
(several GOP MI gubernatorial candidates were denied ballot spots for the 22 MI GOP primary,
including the one thought to be their leading contender,
a black chief of police from Detroit--
because they turned in petitions full of demonstrably false signatures--
They used paid services, they didn't actually do it themselves,
but the optics of all these candidates of a party which had been complaining
of 'voting fraud' turning in a bunch of nominating petitions
containing so many false signatures that they were denied spots on the ballot,
was extremely poetic!)
"Yes, I have canvassed all these areas today, thank you for the money.... see you tomorrow"
