Tonight's Debate Matters a Lot

Tonight’s Debate Matters a Lot

"SNIP ............

Dan Pfeiffer: “The last debate ended the candidacy of the sitting President of the United States. It changed everything about this race — and Donald Trump will not stop yapping about it. If the June debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden was the most important in modern history, tonight’s debate between Trump and Kamala Harris will likely be the second most important.”

“There’s an excellent chance this is the only time the two candidates share a debate stage before the election. Voters are thirsting for more information about Kamala Harris and could certainly use a reminder or two about Trump’s erraticism, instability, and declining cognitive function.”

“Fifty million people watched the Biden-Trump debate. I would be shocked if that number is not higher this time around. Democratic enthusiasm is through the roof compared to June. People who checked out of politics in 2021 have checked back in, and there is a genuine curiosity surrounding Kamala Harris.”

2. I don't think tonight's debate is going to wake anyone up. If there is a single soul with 2 brain cells to rub together

they would have woken up a long time ago. Current TSF supporters are who they are forever. brain dead and crazy.
Except for the big $$$$$$ crowd, they know he is a dangerous lunatic, but they're not concerned because their wealth protects them from any personal harm, and awards them with ability to build their own countries, islands etc.
The media owners are of this class of big money. It has been in their power to enable or disable a potential candidate ability to campaign and do well, or shred them to ashes.
The are behind the scenes of the shit show we'be been suffering through as a nation.
The debates are also their creation, their production. While I concede that debates are normally important for citizens to get a full measure of the character of the persons running for the highest office in the land, in this election season, the "debate" was an orchestrated shit show by the media, as it was with Biden vs TSF likewise they will treat KH in the same manner, giving TSF a false impression of stately performance.

The media is not a friend to democracy, it's a friend to narcissistic autocrats who worship wealth above all else.
For people paying any attention, we know who Kamala Harris is, and we know who TSF is.
It sickens me to my core, that this thing everyone is calling a debate, is going to be a psychotic convicted felon vs a normal, stable, vibrant, intelligent, good hearted individual.
I just keep asking: Really? That's actually happening in this country?

Surely, tell me this is a long episode of The Twilight Zone!

...I really don't see how a debate would matter.

The difference between to two candidates is clear to anyone who has been watching, so tonight will just be both candidates preaching to their respective choirs unless people who don't "do" politics watch it.

Hopefully, people who weren't thinking much about it might tune in tonight and see there's a reason to vote this year.

I woke up to the clock radio and they expressed that Trump is "more trusted" on the economy and immigration. What?

They did say Harris is "more likable" and seen as the party of "change".

Per usual it seems Donold always gets to start the game on third base in the eyes of media.

It starts to set in.

Its the opposite of Hillary. Where the media has spent 30+ years bashing hillary every chance they got, theyve spent the last 15+ building trump up.

And to be fair.. While covid caused a lot of issues.. it also provided a great chance to hand out government money to a fair number of folks. Funny enough, a healthy touch of socialism helped the economy greatly compared to what normal trump/republican policies accomplish. Most people just want to live their lives, and choose not to pay attention except when things get bad. So all they noticed was extra money in their pockets. And big tough talk about china. And immigrants.

I'm not watching it. There is nothing Trump or Harris could say or do that would make me change my vote to Trump. Nothing.

I am skeptical. Only the willfully ignorant do not already know that the choice is between deranged, spiteful incompetence and normalcy. Nobody is going to be miraculously restored to clear judgment by anything that happens tonight. Trump will not answer any meaningful questions and the media will not hold him accountable for that failure. If Trump smears himself with feces, the media will skip a beat then fling the same at Kamala.

He has no way to grow his vote. He is unlikeable and has a net negative rating. Every time he opens his mouth, voters are reminded of how much they don't like Trump. Many Trump voters were 2 time Obama and 1 time Biden voters. How does he get there? I don't see it

10. I have a hunch.

Sep 2024

Of course, there's no way I can prove this.

But in the event that Trump turns in a shockingly awful debate performance and in the event that Harris turns in a great one, I think that would boost Harris's campaign momentum, increase the energy level of her supporters even more, and make winning in November more likely. I heard talk show host Dean Obeidallah say on one of his recent shows that the higher the energy level, the more votes that will translate to.

Again, this is just a hunch.

Kamala is smart. She never would have been interested in debating Trump if she thought it had no potential of improving her chances to be elected president. Agreeing to this debate was a part of her strategy to win in November.

and it is unifying. Im wanting to share the info with my on-the-fence siblings . However Im not finding much of anything truthful about exactly what the Bipartisan agreement says and their RW sources are full of lies and BS. I THINK it says something to the effect that... a) the border is secure -no one in without paperwork and b) work permits and/or path to citizenship is possible which imho is necessary because the economy and so many employers (conservative AND liberal) are dependent on these people. In contrast, the repub nominees way is nothing but brutality and as Frump promised will be A BLOODY STORY. His words!!! The abnormality and wrongness of that needs to be screamed from the rooftops.

15. This is likely the biggest audience of Harris' career tonight.
Tue Sep 10, 2024, 05:47 PM
Sep 2024

Her convention speech won't come close to sniffing this audience. In 2020, over 70 million Americans watched the first presidential debate. This is literally her biggest introduction to the American people. A lot of people are going to make up their minds tonight. I know it seems insane to think but yes, there are voters out there who are debating whether they should vote third party, vote for Harris or not vote at all. Yes, I agree that most those uncommitted to the two candidates are not likely going to be won by Trump. But their not voting or voting third party is pretty much a win for Trump.

Harris has to convince these voters to support her. That's something Biden did not do a couple months ago and his numbers took hit because of it.

But as long as he's framing the narrative, he's winning the debate. That's what should be Kamala's focus. She has to take the narrative away from him. She should be well-versed in this focal point because that's what courtroom prosecutors do all the time.
Kamala can say, "We've all heard and read the debate hype, and one area of interest printed just recently will be your persistence as a liar. I'm eager to hear these lies. Can you begin now?" Trump's response will be a lie. She can then say, "That's a great start. Do you have any more?"
The objective would be to meta-communicate the framing in a way that givesTrump no option but to live within Harris' framework.
