I want to watch the debate tonight, but I have a problem: I never watch Trump. I don't watch his speeches. I don't watch news clips. I don't watch clips people post here of his being an idiot. I can't stand to look at his bloated, disgusting face. I can't stand to hear his lying mouth speak. So how do I deal with watching this debate? I think I need to keep the volume on when he's speaking to get a true sense of how Harris is doing. So I guess I'm looking for psychological advice. How do you all deal with him?

(12,210 posts)The man makeup will be thick tonight, his Clown tie, bad suit, and his Accordion hands which means he is lying or doesn't know what he is talking about.
I usually put closed captions, on with mute, and try to read his word garbage. I don't like his voice and tone.

if my Husband watches then I will kind of hear it,,,,
But mostly I will come to DU to read reports from all you guys who did watch it.

(11,411 posts)I can't stand his whiny voice, his fat, overly madeup face, his ass mouth, or his accordion hands, let alone anything he has to say. I might read the play-by-play on Wonkette, or I might just skip it entirely in favor of something on Netflix or Prime.

But Ill watch the debate, with my husband (who despises TFG as much as I do) and scream at the tv when needed (whenever TFG opens his mouth).

(3,961 posts)I find tsf revolting. I've never deliberately watched or listened to that entity. His verbal diarrhea of lies, is an outrageous assault on the human psyche. The last "debate" had me so riled after 10 minutes I had to turn it off. I do not know how tonights debate will go, but given his record, I can't imagine him being civil and honest, all of a sudden.
That said, I may tune in for a few minutes as I support, vice president, Kamala Harris. I want to see her show that she has a plan for our country that is far superior to anything her opponent could mash together in a giant spit ball of lies in gibberish.
I'll tune in and hope for the best, if I have to turn it off I will do that.

Otherwise, I don't watch Trump speak either. I watch a few clips here and there and that's enough for me. I did watch his crazy acceptance speech at the RNC.

(2,485 posts)the part I can't connect with. How a political candidate can cause so much pain to someone is a thing I can't understand at all. Trump doesn't bother me, I simply dislike him. He doesn't cause me mental anguish, pain, fear or anything else. This is politics, and Trump is just another human, nothing more. I deal with worse problems trying to drive in traffic to get to work in the mornings. I'm not scared to watch Fox news or other outlets either. I don't need media analysts to tell me how to think or interpret. I like to know what political opponents are thinking and why because sometimes, there are actually valid points to me heard. I don't need to be isolated and protected from opposing beliefs, no matter how dumb some of it can be.
There is not supposed to be drama, this is politics. And I'll be frank about it, I'm getting kind of pissed off that politics has turned into the vile sport and dividing subject that it has. People have grown to actually hate one another over this foolishness. It's a serious business, and Trump is a result of that behavior, not the cause of it. A guy like that should have never been able to rise in popularity, but that is the mood that we as an entire nation have nurtured.
Now I'll stand back and take my beating for telling the raw truth.

(300 posts)I will not watch the "debate." The whole idea of it is a farce, and old man Trump is SO obnoxious that I become physically ill when listening to him or seeing him. My blood pressure rises, my stomach gets upset, and my cave man tendencies to beat him over the head repeatedly with a club becomes irresistible.
I honestly have never understood how anyone could stand anything about this piece of human scum. The 78-year-old nut case is repulsive in every imaginable way.

(461 posts)Kamala Harris has been preparing with the best debate prep team in the business.
Philippe Reines, who is better on his worst day than Donald Trump is on his best day, has been playing the part of Trump in her mock debates, he didn't hold anything back and Trump would be lucky to be 10% as good as this guy.
Colin Kahl (former Undersecretary of Defense)
Tom Donilon (President Obamas National Security Adviser)
Tom Nides (former Ambassador to Israel)
Grace Landrieu (Director for Economic Policy and Labor at the National Economic Council and one helped write the Build Back Better Program)
Brian Nelson (former Undersecretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence at the Treasury Department
Phil Gordon ( former Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs and Special Assistant to the President and White House Coordinator for the Middle East, North Africa, and the Persian Gulf Region under President Obama)
Rebecca Lissner (former Acting Senior Director for Strategic Planning on the National Security Council, helped write President Biden's National Security Strategy and former Director of the Russia Strategy Group
Karen Dunn (one of her Debate Coaches for her prep against Mike Pence, we all remember that one!)
Minyon Moore (former Director of White House political affairs under President Bill Clinton)
Symone Sanders-Townsend (political veteran, author of No, You Shut Up: Speaking Truth to Power and Reclaiming America)
