General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI had a strange note on my front door today.
Someone I don't know asked where I got my "Veterans For Harris/Walz" sign in the front yard.
I called the number. The guy is obviously older than I. I bet if I saw him in town, I would assume he was a MAGAt.
I told him that I had assumed my sign would be quickly stolen and had bought two. I offered him my spare. He was very grateful.
I have a warm-and-fuzzy feeling. I helped a fellow vet and there will be another sign in our small town.

(59,467 posts)This is really neat.
You helped someone out and also getting out the vote.
People will now see at least two Harris/Walz signs in your town.

(18,216 posts)He had to put his service dog to sleep today because she was diagnosed with cancer. I don't know his politics, but it broke my heart to see him taking her to the car.

(11,973 posts)I hope he gets another service dog quickly.
Is really a sad, heartbreaking situation.

(18,216 posts)They have classes for the vets to train their own service dogs.
War takes a lot from a soldier. He has PTSD, COPD, and chronic pain from breaking bones after jumping out of a helicopter that was on fire. All this affects him every day. I've never seen the effects of military service on someone, so its been an education. Saying "thank you for your service" just seems so small when you realize that the effects of military service can last a lifetime.

(40,229 posts)And it worked. Im 70, white, by appearances maybe maga maybe old hippie. By politics red blooded Veteran, Democrat to the bone. Free with my opinions. Not many trump signs in our small town. Maybe a lil early.

(4,516 posts)too bad our most of our county officials are GOP/MAGA, with a couple of them facing trials for messing with the last election.
Which reminds me, it's a day ending in Y so it's time to make sure my registration hasn't been purged by the maga-ish Recorder.

(6,454 posts)But I'm in a different country, so most people seeing it wouldn't understand.
Then again, the interest in the upcoming US elections overseas is quite high.
The signs are a great way to send your message without getting into peoples' faces about it.

(29,941 posts)when a note was left on my car (while I was out of town) thanking me for the equal sign bumper sticker. She and her partner were new to NC and it was reassuring enough to her that she wanted to let me know.
Thanks for buying 2! it could not have worked out better.
did you find out if he's only lately for Harris, or has he always been a Democrat?

(267 posts)They live in a town of pop. 600-ish. Small-time.
The mayor has an enormous TRUMP banner across his building, which used to be the offices of the local newspaper.
Never go back.

(4,221 posts)We have been putting out our political signs, and during gay pride month we fly the rainbow flag under our US flag. Four years ago, we had a woman come to the door, just to let us know that our sign didn't make her feel so alone. And one of my fellow American Legionaires told me once that his wife wanted him to thank me for flying our rainbow flag.
Yeah, somebody going by in a pickup trick yelled the 'f' word at me last month. But that seems pretty insignificant by comparison.

(4,472 posts)I was driving through my town when I saw a Harris-Walz sign in a yard and a man standing in front of the house, so I pulled up and asked him where he got the sign. We talked about politics for about 30 minutes and when I told him I needed to go he shook my hand and told me to take the yard sign (he had a much larger wooden one in the same yard).

(17,159 posts)I live in a very rural (closest neighbor is about 1/4 mile away) and red area, and I noticed many Trump flags and banners around me, so I figured a Veterans for Harris/Walz sign would go over better than a "regular" one. I happened to be out on our dirt road with the dogs right after I put it out, and the first car that went by waved at us. Kind of surprised me. So far, so good, and as we live in the first house off the highway, all the Trumpers get to see the sign as they pass every day, lol.
