Netanyahu rejection of Lebanon ceasefire plan 'shatters' ties with Biden

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre also insisted Thursday that the US’s call for a ceasefire had in fact been “coordinated” with Israel, despite the rejection, adding that talks were continuing at the UN General Assembly in New York.

snip

The understanding was that Netanyahu would relate publicly to the intended arrangement when he landed in New York on Thursday and it would be possible to take the effort forward, the report said. Netanyahu was set to say that while Israel continues to battle Hezbollah, it welcomes any ceasefire initiative that would safely enable the return of northern Israeli residents to their homes. There were even draft texts of what Netanyahu would say, according to the report.

But then came the wave of political criticism of the nascent ceasefire in Israel, and “everything turned upside down,” the report said, leading Netanyahu to distance himself from truce proposals, issuing denials from his plane.

Channel 12 quoted a source familiar with the details as saying, “Obviously the president of the United States would not lead a process like this without the agreement of Prime Minister Netanyahu. This backtracking completely shatters what remains of relations with the Biden administration.”

Hopefully the shattering of relations would mean the end of arms shipments. We can hope.

Let's punish every Israeli man, woman and child for what the monster Bibi did/does. I mean, they elected him after all so let's punish them all! FGS! It's not just arms, it is air and sea support.

The people of Israel are our allies.

I sure hope that TSF never comes to power and attempts to extort and wage war on our allies with his best bud Putin. I sure hope our allies do not turn their backs on us due to the actions of one man that we duly elected. I sure as hell would hope they don't decide to punish every American citizen for the actions of a dictator. I sure as well hope we don't find ourselves alone.

But, that's just me.

Think. Again.

The people of Israel may very well be our allies, but apparently their elected leader feels otherwise.

I certainly wouldn't want or expect our allies to support violent actions made by trump that they don't agree with.

that this statement/quote came from a 'source familiar with the details .. ' (i.e., clearly no one speaking with authority for the administration)

so - I guess we have to see these 'shattered relations' playing out ....

and stay in power until he dies of extreme old age. That can happen easily.

After that rocket killed all those Druze kids playing football, options became pretty limited. I don't see any of this turning out well for any of the participants on either a personal or national level.

They absolutely want Trump to win. If you can't see that, I don't know what to tell you. It's been obvious from the beginning. He didn't like Biden since the Obama administration. I find him to be an ungrateful bastard. I think he is a double crosser.

And expand their “defense” into other countries? Does Bibi have the support of his citizens to go into Lebanon and just what does that do for our standing in the area? Are we perceived to be partners in these attacks with made in America bombs landing on innocents? Even before written history, there has been unrest, wars and never ending disputes but after all this time, they can’t tolerate each other and live in peace?

But I respect others’ opinions. Will there ever be an answer to this Middle East situation…or even a compromise that would be acceptable? Do they just fight each other until the whole area turns to glass from all the bombing?

I'm no fan of Netanyahu or his Likud Party, but I also know that the US would never leave Israel defenseless as long as Iran is arming Israel's enemies. What an absurd notion.
