Asked if she's voting for Kamala and she said... "Well, you know, I want to know her beyond the fluff interviews they have given with her. The media treats her like a woman. I want to see what she is really made of."
My response was "Well, we have a convicted rapist and 34-count convicted felon on one side and a very highly respected prosecutor, AG, VP, and a woman who wants to protect women's reproductive freedom. What more do you need to know?"
Her answer was that she hates rump, but she wants to know more about Kamala on a personal level.
I then asked her if she has heard of Project 2025. She has. I offered to send her a link so that she can read the whole thing (she looked like she was going to throw up - lol), but she declined, repeating again that she wants to know what Kamala is like as a person, rather than a politician.
I suggested she watch her rallies, but the response was the same. Not sure what this woman is looking for, but she might well be able to sway a LOT of votes our way if I can find the right type of interview or information.
I sent her the link to Kamala's policy website and I trust she is reading it.
I hav no idea what type of information / interview this woman is looking for but if anyone knows, it would be our beloved community here. (It's very easy for me to discern the type of person someone is just by looking at them, so I don't know what she is after. My instant revulsion when first viewing weirdo, then beardo are perfect examples. They're creepy.)
Any ideas of interviews she has given or information about Kamala that is more "personal" than political?
TYIA!

Hell, even I was unsure about the proper pronunciation of her name before this campaign started,
because so few talked about her in the news, and some of them were probably saying it wrong...
However, for god's sake, she ought to know enough about TRUMP by now to make this decision easy.

(24,706 posts)then WTH is her problem? Does she really think that there is something about Harris that might be even worse than a felon, rapist, insurrectionist?
I don't get these people who know what scum Trump is but say that they still need to know Harris better. Seems to me that the contrast between the candidates is so strong that the ones who say they don't really know Harris are just saying that as an excuse to vote for Trump. Or, they are Trumpists through and through and are trying to sow seeds of doubt about Harris to people who support Harris/Walz.
I'd probably have said to her, "Well you've got two choices, Trump the criminal who wants to be dictator and Harris, the prosecutor, Senator, and VP. Would you really choose the criminal, dictator wannabe?"
If she answered that she might choose a 3rd party candidate, or just not vote, I'd tell her that not voting, or choosing 3rd party would be throwing the election in Trump's favor.
This woman could find out Harris' background easily enough by looking her up on Wikipedia or Googling her name along with the word "biography."
SheltieLover
(60,142 posts)Thank you for weighing in.
I pretty much told her just that: that not voting or voting for a 3rd party is THE SAME as voting for weirdo and beardo.

(24,706 posts)I suspect that people who say they need to know more about Harris are probably Trumpists trying to sow doubt among Harris/Walz supporters. I don't buy the idea that they need to know Harris before deciding whom to vote for. The contrast between the candidates is so great that it's a no brainer decision for Harris unless they are Trumpists.

(17,721 posts)wonderful things about her.
Just a few of Harris's many hobbies growing up, according to her Vogue profile: singing in an Oakland, Calif. church choir, joining civil rights marches, mastering Indian cooking, cleaning test tubes in her mother's (a cancer researcher's) lab and knitting while watching cartoons (the only way she was permitted to watch TV). I have no idea how many blankets Kamala must have crocheted, Harris's sister, Maya, told Vogue. She was the mad crocheter.
Why does Harris list "Momala" on her Twitter bio? It's what her two stepchildren, the kids of her husband, attorney Doug Emhoff, call her because, as she wrote in her book, The Truths We Hold: An American Journey, they weren't keen on the title of "stepmom."
https://www.vogue.com/article/2020-women-candidates-quirky-hobbies-intellect-too
In Montreal, a 13-year-old Harris and her younger sister, Maya, led a successful demonstration in front of their apartment building in protest of a policy that banned children from playing on the lawn.

13. She likes to cook. Ms. Harris loves food. She has ribbed her running mate, Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota, about his white guy tacos, shared her turkey cooking tips and said that she liked to read recipes to unwind. In 2019 Ms. Harris posted a series of cooking videos to YouTube, including one with the actor Mindy Kaling that has been watched more than six million times. Senator Harris, I say this with respect, youre kind of a show-off, Ms. Kaling quipped. Right? Ms. Harris replied.

I like to also tell people. She has 34 years of experience serving the public. And I may say this to someone, you know you may not feel like you know her very well yet, but theres some things we do know. We know that when shes on TV you will be able to sit your kids/grandkids down to watch her speak and not worry about what shell say. (963 posts)Not sure if this person is confused or maybe just looking for excuses to politely tell you she is a MAGAT fascist.
Knowing what she is made of means she wants to see examples of Kamala in action, under fire. Look at her prosecutorial work as AG to bring an end to MS13 activity in CA. Her support for The First Step Act, Medicare for All, and the Green New Deal in her time as a Senator. Her excellent work on a variety of tasks as VP, including negotiating Ukraine's defensive plan, stemming the flow of unsafe immigration from Central America, and a strong focus on equity and justice in all her actions even when it makes the MAGATS wail. She was also the deciding vote in the Inflation Reduction Act.
"Her answer was that she hates rump, but she wants to know more about Kamala on a personal level."
How about her time in the exclusive Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority? Her many great recipes and cooking tips? Her humble middle class background? She's a fun woman who lives to laugh and lead. There's nothing that's not to like.

(5,330 posts)point blank what she wants to know about her? What she means by personal level? What specific concerns she has?
I think she doesn't want to vote for Trump but is having a hard time voting for a woman of color.
One thing people who study these sorts of things have found is that people's rating of women can be high when they are in a position of power but drop the minute a woman actively seeks a position of power (even one she already has - like reelection). It is like it is OK for a woman to have power but not to want it. Maybe that's part of what's going on.

(26,314 posts)because the parameters don't immediately make sense.
She wants an understanding of Harris on a personal level but thinks the interviews she has had are "fluff" so it is hard to discern what would be considered to add value.
They want to "vote for something" but are not particularly moved by policy distinctions.

Everything about Kamala Harris is out there. She's hiding nothing. If people can't read about it, then they're just Trump voters who are too ashamed to admit it, afraid they'll be laughed at. Especially women. Especially people of color. There's no way anyone of either group with any sense believes the Republicans care about them in any positive way.
