Mother-daughter's custom Converses are one-size-fits-all for Kamala supporters
Cristine Soto DeBerry has a long history of being involved in politics and volunteering for presidential campaigns. But this year, the former chief of staff to the San Francisco District Attorney, is participating in a different way.
Inspired by Vice President Kamala Harris entry into the presidential race and the love Harris and DeBerrys daughter, Ella, share for Converse tennis shoes, DeBerry and Ella have teamed up to sell customized Converse and donate the proceeds to Harris campaign. It was a way to do something more than just make a single donation, said DeBerry, a Mill Valley resident.
That was one of those connection points between [Ella] and someone running for president that hadnt really existed before, DeBerry said. She got excited about that shared love of the shoes and so we used that as an entry point.
The mother-daughter duo have spent the past two months customizing pairs of Converse Chuck Taylor All Star shoes with Harris campaign-related logos and symbols. DeBerry initially began making ones just for her family before opening up the effort to friends. She and Ella recently set up an Instagram site and an Etsy shop to make their customized shoes available to the broader public. So far, news of their effort has mainly gotten out by word of mouth.
