ASHEVILLE, N.C. Americas largest privately-owned estate has abruptly shut down in Asheville after Hurricane Helene caused extensive flooding and building damage along the 8,000 acre property.
The iconic Biltmore Estate, situated in the Blue Ridge Mountains, spans 175,000 square feet, boasts 250 rooms, 43 bathrooms, 65 fireplaces and 22 miles of walking trail.
But the historic property, a tourist attraction known for its gardens and outdoor adventure, tours, exhibitions and restaurants, will be closed temporarily, the estate announced in a social media post this week, becoming yet another victim of the hurricane.
On Saturday, the property was guarded by security as construction crews tossed debris into trash hauls and removed piles of rubble.
The entrance to Biltmore and other low-lying areas, such as its farm, experienced significant wind, flooding, and building damage, the post said.

(26,202 posts)Antler Hill, that is likely where most damages is. The village has a very cool tunnel that leads to the winery that used to be used to house cattle. I imagine it was terribly flooded as well

(2,112 posts)If I remember correctly the mansion itself is on much higher ground than the village.
You can see for miles from the wall facing the mansion.
