At 700 AM CDT (1200 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Milton was
located by NOAA Hurricane Hunter aircraft near latitude 22.6 North,
longitude 94.9 West. Milton has been moving slowly eastward
overnight, and an eastward to east-northeastward motion is forecast
during the next couple of days, followed by a faster northeastward
motion. On the forecast track, Milton is forecast to move across
the Gulf of Mexico and approach the west coast of the Florida
Peninsula by midweek.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 60 mph (95 km/h)
with higher gusts. Steady to rapid strengthening is forecast during
the next few days. Milton is forecast to become a hurricane later
today, and it could become a major hurricane while it moves across
the central and eastern Gulf of Mexico.

Currently, who knows?

At this moment, one model page

https://flhurricane.com/clarkmodelanimator.php?year=2024&storm=14

shows it striking anywhere from Cedar Key to Ft Myers.

Its companion intensity page
https://flhurricane.com/clarkintensityanimator.php?year=2024&storm=14

is split between TS, Cat 1/2, and Cat 3 (plus the hurricane models hype it more, but I take that with a full saltshaker for now).

There may be improved ideas by tomorrow.

2. The modeling I am following (which has been as accurate as modeling gets in the past) has it falling below named storm..

status by 3:00 p.m.Tuesday out in the Gulf. The center of the system projected to make landfall between 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday near Cape Coral with sustained wind speeds no higher than the high 30s/ low 40s mph but some decent wind gusts at TS force - potentially low Cat1. Looks to exit over Vero Beach between 8:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening. Central eastern coast of Florida (where I live) will get periods of sustained winds in the 20s mph range with gusts in the 50s mph with heavy rain throughout Wednesday. Fingers crossed it stays that low...or lower!

These beasts are so hard to predict 72 hours out.

The problem we're going to have is that we are getting an appetizer today that is saturating our ground. Dumping additional water on top of this is...concerning.

I've lived in FL my whole life. I've never seen a storm fall apart that quickly. Now if it wasn't moving maybe. Milton is
Comact like Andrew and he increased speed After hitting land.

It was very accurate about 48 hours ahead of Helene. But like all models, I don't rely on it. I'm hoping it is this, but preparing for the worst.

We’re prepared as much as we can be for whatever but 2 hits in a few weeks would be hard to bear. Ground is so saturated, trees going over would be an even bigger problem.
