... they have NO capacity for critical thinking. They fixate on their preferred narrative, and no amount of rock-hard, irrefutable evidence to the contrary will cause them to doubt the lies to which they cling with irrational ferocity. They'd carve out their own eyeballs with a rusty spoon before they'd EVER admit that they were wrong.

Like this pitiful clown, they are write-offs. It's a total waste of time and energy to even engage with them. They're not worth the effort. Believe me, I've tried, and that was with family members, co-workers, and a bully berating a young retail clerk because she looked at his hat.

I need more coffee.

Pushing back on falsehoods and promoting facts is a good thing for a lot of different reasons. Ultimately, it's important to keep bringing up facts even if people don't listen.

I think it's the only way we keep our civilization alive.

Others who feel the same way as you do can feel not-so-alone.
Maybe some will speak up the next time they have a chance.
You have planted seeds of thoughts in some.
But when I was at my rural Post Office with no one around, I just laughed loud and hearty when a guy yelled “Kamala is a communist” at me and my car with magnetic bumper stickers, all supporting Harris/Walz, Democratic Congressman Gabe Vasquez and reproductive rights and they’re all over my car. I don’t know how to post pictures and too busy to learn.

They never have to be wrong again, no matter how wrong they are because they now have a network of like minded people behind them.

They can be told of, or dream up any ludicrous nonsense they like and it is believed because they are now part of something "big".

They are MAGA. Empowerment of the vermin.

These people cannot be reasoned with.

I responded to one of Jonathan Cohn's article on Huffpost.com about healthcare.

I explained that I was diagnosed in lymphoma in 1990.
It returned in 2019, and was only successful on the fifth treatment.
ACA saved me with its ban on lifetime limits.

One of the responders basically called me a liar.

I did not respond; although others did.

He seems like a Tucker Carlson or JD Vance wannabe. He has the same smug expression and delivery with what he thinks is a "gotcha" question. As with Carlson and Vance, the minute the facade of intellectual superiority is shattered, the self-satisfaction turns to rage. I can see and feel the intense discomfort of cognitive dissonance in this guy.

Would've been an interesting follow-up, to see what his response would've been. Don't fight over his main emotional point (Biden as traitor), but have a look at some specifics. He might even make one or two concessions if he feels his main point isn't being contested, and then he'd go home and mull it over. (As you can maybe tell, I don't have any MAGA contacts to try these techniques on. They sound good in theory, but....).

The guy couldn’t handle the fact that kid burst his info bubble with facts, data, and truth. So he gets super pissy and basically calls for Biden to be killed…for some unnamed treasonous act/behavior. Meanwhile, his orange Jesus, Cantaloupe Caligula the Corpulent actually IS a traitor. We all know about the stolen and missing classified documents he had, and the suspicious timing of deaths of many CIA assets, etc.

This cognitive dissonance/hypocrisy with respect to Caligula pisses me off. The threats and intimations of violence against fellow citizens, and Democratic politicians is insane.

I can’t stand Caligula. I didn’t like him before he used Russia to steal an election. I hate him more now, than I ever have. I wish he’d eat that last Big Mac that adds that last bit of cholesterol to his coronary arteries and just (fucking) die (already!), and save us all a lot of grief. But I have never said he should be killed.

It really amped up the conspiracy theory parade, especially when Clinton was in office. When Obama became POTUS, it was reinforced by pure, unbridled racism that had seethed sort of under cover since forever.

And the politicians and their big donors on the right probably helped fund the movement because they were still pissed about Nixon being shown the door.

. . . Is a voice crying out against the powerlessness which he feels in a complicated world.

Notice that he disdained the interviewer's knowledge but did not provide any specific information to counter those points. Instead, the guy's amygdala went into overdrive and sent a burst of adrenaline through his veins. The violent rhetoric was a fear response shrouded in aggression. You can practically feel the guy's sphincter muscles tightening up.

I can't say for sure, but it is probable that this person listens to Fox News and Newsmax.
He is either deranged or pliable or both. However, it cannot be emphasized enough how much Fox News has contributed to the hatred, division, and confusion that many people have. As Murdoch's son (the sane one) has mentioned, Fox exudes poison - and has been a bastion of lies and near Russian style propaganda.
So, this individual is a sad case and I wish I could say I feel sorry for him. But what I feel is that he should be arrested for even saying what he did. No tolerance for saying this. But I can only wonder how the likes of Fox News may have contributed in some ways.

Luke did a really good job responding to the asshole (as he usually does) even if the jackass didn't want to hear the truth. There was a very big tell in that clip - the guy thought he sprung a gotcha on Luke asking him for 3 Democratic policies he supports. In his MAGA bubble, he thinks Democrats are all stupid and know nothing (projection). Luke should have countered him and asked him to name Republican policies he supports and I can almost guarantee he couldn't name one legitimate policy other than getting rid of all immigrants. That's the brainwashing effect that we're up against.
