Trump is now ranting about using public land to build maga cities

That according to him will be like a maga Valhallas where jobs would be created with new factories making shit that used to be made in China.. This isn't being covered by the press in any serious way. It was mentioned on NPR, where the guest passed it off as proposal to convert post office properties to multi use, completely sane washing Trumps's idea.

Basically the same idea. If you committed crimes or didn't want to live in the boring society where people and companies followed the rules, you got sent to a walled region called "Coventry" ( as in the classic 18th century phrase "Get thee to Coventry" ) where there were no rules. If you survived your sentence, you would be given a choice; you could opt to stay, or be assessed for re-integration into society.
Coventry is basically a Libertarian Paradise.

Freedom Cities sound like an Eloon or Thiel proposal.

I knew much of this on a surface level but this book really described the looting, the enslavement of populations, the takeover of governments, the suppression of the local economy, etc. in order to increase the wealth of the already wealthy.

It explains how Latin America, with abundant natural resources, didn't have a chance to develop. And all this was done to benefit first, Europeans, then Americans (United States).

Sun Oct 6, 2024, 01:20 PM
Oct 2024

Cities almost always emerge due to the convergence of railways, highways, ports (river, sea, air or space) or forts. There are a few exceptions - arguably Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, and Scotsdale, AZ all come to mind - but I anticipate that 75 years from now neither of those cities will exist. (very high water requirements in the middle of deserts, aging populations, technological obsolescence). Most of the prime spots for building cities in the US are already occupied, and as population peaks (by 2050) and starts to decline, you're going to see cities shrinking instead of significant new city growth.

What's more, cities go through a libertarian phase, but typically grow out of it as the need for order asserts itself with higher population density. This is why you see very few modern truly libertarian cities. They become liberal.

Without birth control, abortion, and wanting to see every family have as many as possible. There won’t be a choice. Coast to coast one solid apartment block.

China built cities like that. They are starting to be filled so there is some movement to filling them. But large portions of the city are still vacant.

A lot of the land is Bureau of Land Management and that’s in the west. They are having problems with supplying water already. Toss in thousands more families and that’s asking for a disaster.

But here's how to do it.

Let me start... my father was a Land Developer.

You see... Land Developers acquire land. In SoCal, they're frequently privately owned ranches from the early 20th Century.

Let's say you acquire a 1200 acre piece of land.

At that point you've got to huddle with the City and County to present what you'd like to do with the property.

Developers would all like to subdivide the land into a maximum number of 10,000sf lots to sell to homebuilders to build high end expensive homes.

The City/County comes back and says NO... you've also got to build 2 parks and an Elementary School.

Recently, they've started telling the Developers they must build x% of affordable homes.

Any of you been to Austin? Or maybe Frisco Texas in the 00's?

They'll plop down a condo complex of $400k homes and it's "affordable housing"

Here's what they SHOULD do.

The US Gov't needs to spearhead a initiative to build "Liberty Homes". I'm naming that after the WW2 program where the gov't designed a standardized cargo ship design to be mass produced in wartime.

Build them "profit-free".

Make contracts with vendors, let's say... Kohler to supply 100k sinks, faucets and toilets a year. You get wholesale+ values.

So you have these Liberty Homes... maybe the L1, L2 and L3 models... 800sf, 1200sf and 1600sf with 1, 2 and 3 bedrooms.

Now back to the Developers.

Lets take Austin for example... an area like Georgetown, require the homebuilders like DR Horton or Brock or Grand Homes... require them to place Liberty (modular) Homes in subdivisions on 5000sf lots.

That way... there are 150k homes right next to the 800k homes, enjoying the same brand new shopping centers, movie theaters and schools.

This can be done.

They'd decide they should "fix" things to make their cities better. It wouldn't be long before they would all want to do this, and eventually they'd all be at each other's throats. Some of the biggest problems would be how the slices of the economic and political pies would be distributed. Who's going to be rich and who isn't? Who's going to make the laws, and who's going to have to follow them? Who's going to be at the bottom of the social strata, and who will be at the top?
You know that the Magat's are all-in on greed, intolerance, and judgment. These folks need someone to scapegoat, and aren't about to change just because they live in "paradise".
I expect the citizens of these perfect cities would essentially burn them to the ground within 100 years.

Don't forget this classic :

https://www.cracked.com/article_28784_new-hampshires-libertarian-utopia-got-overrun-by-bears.html

In the 1990s, groups of self-regulating, Ayn-Rand-quoting quixotic libertarians made their way up to Grafton, taking over community centers, residential neighborhoods, and even building a survival tent community in what they called the Free Town Project. And for a while, libertarian values reigned supreme. The new Graftonites even managed to subvert the town the libertarian way: by slashing its budget, crippling it with frivolous lawsuits, and overtaxing local law enforcement with their open carry bullshit.

But soon, the interlopers were interrupted by another faction eager to bite the hand that feeds them: black bears....Sadly, since you can't debate with a bear in the free marketplace of ideas, the Free Town Project was wholly unprepared to deal with this ursine uprising. Some wanted to hunt the bears down (which is illegal but, y' know, libertarians), others wanted to feed them donuts, and some hardcore libertarians debated whether they should infringe on the bears' God-given right to eat their faces at all. And while many had come to live out in the wilds as Ron Paul intended, they had all been too busy studying the blade to learn any actual survival or bear-repelling skills.

These mixed messages only further discombobulated the black bears, causing them to assert their dominance over these message board freedom fighters, even more, invading houses and even attacking several town members. But it wasn't bears who destroyed the dream of the Grafton libertarian utopia, but libertarians. Having an actual problem to deal with simply caused half of the libertarians to try and rebel against the other libertarians, each refusing to do what the other suggested out of principle. Like a Randian ouroboros, the Free Town Project soon devoured itself, scattering its remaining ideologues and leaving Grafton with nothing but empty buildings, broken dreams, and a bad economy. Oh, and a shit ton of bears.
