scare stories?
There are also opposing stories showing up in some of my feeds.
Seems a lot of people are using pot instead of the pricey and not as effective opioid drugs.

(106,693 posts)Nothing. I repeat NOTHING is without risk. Ever heard of someone dying of WATER toxicity? It happens when one consumes too much water (waaay too much water) too fast and dilutes out all of one's crucial electrolytes, but especially sodium, leading to brain swelling and ultimate death if not treated.
Some take on an issue like marijuana as though all forms, types, routes, and regulations covering its use, sale, and distribution are the same in every case and every state and every instance. Can cannabis cause health issues in some people? Absolutely-- especially some forms and some acute or chronic level use. But, all is not equal in this regard, and the very same thing can be said for alcohol, processed foods, contaminated foods, the multitude of prescription drugs, unregulated nutritional supplements, and the very water we drink from the tap or those ubiquitous plastic bottles.

(47,515 posts)Pharma wants to control innovation so they own it. LSD is under research again. Or perhaps the Russians sowing discord amongst the people. Once they divide you on enough issues, they have your brain going left and right. Then they create protests, dissatisfaction with government regulation. It all feeds into paralyzing us to the point where few know what to think.

(4,878 posts)for pain and my tremors. Over the past few months, I've had a bunch of surgeries, and I used an opioid only once for pain. The cannabis plus an occasional tylenol took care of things. I don't like to take opioids because they constipate me.
Well, guess what? Taking the increased amount of cannabis is constipating me, too. I use it a couple of times daily, always in the afternoon and evening, and have started eating two prunes with every edible.
But otherwise, MJ has been a godsend, and as I look forward to knee replacement surgery, I expect it to continue to control my pain. I'm going to invest in prunes, though.

(19,413 posts)stand up guys and they all laugh about how strong Snoop Dogs pot is. And then I caught Snoop Dog saying Willie Nelson is the only person who can out smoke him.

(33,424 posts)You can find people who drink like fish and live long lives (Winston Churchill as one example). That does not mean everyday mj use has no ill effects in an average person. Inhaling smoke from whatever source will affect the human body over the long term.

(43,276 posts)Its been legal in WA so long I forget what its like not to know about the growers and distillers. Leafly is pretty good about giving info on strains, producers, etc. Around here brands sell themselves by featuring their processes, regulations, etc.

(51,575 posts)If cannabis is legalized nationwide, the pharmaceutical, tobacco and alcohol companies will almost immediately get into the marketplace. Let's face it, if you were a doctor who was allowed to prescribe weed and you had the choice of prescribing Pfizer or Merck weed, or "Smokey Point" or "Dungeness Dank" weed, you'd probably choose the weed from the companies you know and trust. The distillery that makes Smirnoff vodka or Jim Beam bourbon, or the brewery that makes Budweiser beer, would be happy to accept the money of a customer who wants to recreate with cannabis rather than what they make now.
But the governments dependent on fines for possessing cannabis would have a problem - all the money they're collecting from weed-sucking hippies would go away and they might have to raise taxes to afford to continue to operate.
