President Harris must resist the Washington siren song of advisors who will tell her that pardoning Trump will heal the nation.

(11,906 posts)Remember, they let Bush/Cheney walk to the tune of
"Now is not the time to point fingers." and "For the sake of healing the Nation."
She will be a one term president if she pardons him.

(119,697 posts)and led directly or indirectly to the mess we have now. But since the Supremes have said he's immune, why would he even need a pardon? And she couldn't pardon him for the 34 NY state felonies anyhow.

cant pardon those, either.

(119,697 posts)Nixon was terrible; Trump is a thousand times worse. It's bad enough that the Supremes have immunized him from at least some of his crimes.
As a former prosecutor, it would just be anathema to her core beliefs.

This is not a George W. situation ...

(14,738 posts)If GOP takes the Senate I can see them saying "We're not doing shit until you pardon Trump"
IMHO, no matter who wins in November the Trump cases go POOF.
Justice has never been blind.

(3,160 posts)Government shutdowns have been, since Newt engineered the first one, massively popular.
I'm sure that "we won't allow any legislation to pass until you pardon the guy that half or more of Americans think is a criminal asshole" is going to be a big winner.
But, for a rare, tiny, shining moment, we agree!! Justice has never been blind.
I'm just not quite convinced that you've got this one parsed correctly.

(4,712 posts)This was my first thought, too. Pardoning this MFer goes against her basic nature. I cannot imagine her agreeing to do that.

(88 posts)Remember, he is a multiple count war criminal(torture and aggressive war) and mass murderer. I utterly despise Trump but I'm not giving the Alfred E Newman of war criminals a pass. It was a moral failing of Obama in particular and the United States in general to let GWB walk off into the sunset. He should be doing his water colors in the deepest hole in prison.

Brilliant!
I agree with you in your estimation of GWB.
But using this thread as a time to take a shot at Obama?
Masterful.

(26,255 posts)That this is even a serious topic of discussion - to a former prosecutor no less. I just can't even.
Lets hope Rick is just being Rick and firing up the masses.

(11,378 posts)It would be a horrible decision, far greater than Ford's decision to pardon Nixon because it would double down on a wink & nod to Executive criminality. Ford, of course, had no idea Trump would come along and try to destroy the country but a precedent was set that the President of the United States can crime and get away with it.
Trump's crimes are more odious than Nixon's tipping into treason IMHO. Agent Orange rubbing shoulders with every dictator out there is something Richard Nixon would never have done. Nixon might have been a paranoid crook but he was not kissing up to the Russians or trying to kill NATO.
I can't imagine Kamala Harris giving credence to this suggestion. Nor would it 'heal' the country; it only give MAGAWorld additional oxygen.

(10,916 posts)Of course, Trump would need to release medical records going back several years, perhaps even during his term in office...which would lead to questions of why anyone with knowledge of his decline would support his current run for the Presidency?? (You know, the crap they accused Biden supporters of, when it was actually Trump suffering the most from age related decline).
