I guess when the Supreme Court says youre immune, they let you do it: Trump floats sending military after US citizens on election day

I think the bigger problem are the people from within, we have some very bad people, sick people, radical left lunatics, Trump chillingly told Fox News Maria Bartiromo

Donald Trump has chillingly suggested sending the military or National Guard after US citizens on Election Day.
The ex-president gave a sit-down interview with Maria Bartiromo, one of the Fox News hosts whose role in pushing Trumps lies about the 2020 election landed her bosses in the crosshairs of a billion-dollar lawsuit filed by Dominion Voting Systems. It was later settled to the tune of $787m.
In the interview, which aired on Sunday, Bartiromo was back on typical form, suggesting that America was headed for possible violence on Election Day due to scores of immigrants supposedly being let in illegally by the Biden administration. That was a debunked conspiracy the Trump team floated in both 2016 and 2020 the lie that millions of votes for his opponents came from noncitizens.
But Trump took things a step further, denying Bartiromos suggestion that those groups would be the real problem on Election Day.
That honor, he said, went to the so-called enemy within.

(538 posts)They are going to claim the election was "rigged" by falsely claiming non citizens have voted. That is what Musk has been pushing as well.

(46,297 posts)Do we have a plan to nip this in the bud? Or does it all fall on local constabulary forces.

(14,269 posts)he has no control over the military, and I highly doubt that the military would obey such an order as it would be an illegal order.

(28,821 posts)I mean. He really thinks he, as a candidate that most of them have disavowed, can call up the joint chiefs and demand they do his bidding against citizens on election day? Why is the press even reporting on this impossibility?

(12,449 posts)Trump saying he's going to send the military on election day, or the breathless reporting (and tweets from former FBI directors) that assumes he can.

(1,657 posts)Hah! I think if it ever gets that far, we would see this SCOTUS rule that most actions by Republican presidents are official acts, while most by Dem presidents are not. Not in those words, of course, but they would use different standards for evaluating what is and isnt an official act.
Time will tell

(147,231 posts)and only the President can give orders to the military. So, that's not going to happen. Joe Biden is President, and he will not be doing that.
Trump should never be President again. So, he won't be able to send the military anyfuckingwhere.

(23,891 posts)He can rant and rave all he wants, and if he continues to threaten voters and such, shouldn't Garland do something about it?
Garland hasn't done crap for a while, and I fully don't expect to either. On the side of the law, he should be out there in full force, standing firm and strong on a daily basis to stand up for the rule of law, instead of hiding in his offices, letting djt continue mouthing off the nonsense that he's spewing out.
I am, for once, firmly of the belief that Garland should be replaced immediately. He's not standing out there, taking the potshots as one who in the driver's seat at the Justice department should be. Do something, for goodness sakes, Garland.

(3,685 posts)To call out their National Guard.
Who knows what could happen after that.
All they need is someone like, oh lets say MTG, who already gained experience planting explosives on Jan5, to just let a few go off at polling places, and the game is afoot.
Obviously the only people in a red state who would possibly do such a thing would be Democrats, and it would be crucial to terminate them with extreme prejudice before they can proclaim their innocence.

(153,244 posts)After referring to his American opponents as "scum," the Republican candidate suggested possibly using the military to respond to "the enemy from within."

Months later, in a Veterans Day message, the Republican not only referred to many Americans as vermin phrasing that echoed Hitler and Mussolini he concluded, The threat from outside forces is far less sinister, dangerous, and grave, than the threat from within......
That was new, but it wasnt the most unsettling comment on the subject. The Washington Post reported:
Former president Donald Trump said in an interview that aired Sunday that he is worried about the prospect of unspecified actions by what he dubbed radical left lunatics on Election Day, urging that the National Guard or U.S. military be deployed on American soil against those he labeled the enemy from within.
.....In the next breath, in an apparent reference to Election Day concerns, the Republican concluded, It should be very easily handled by, if necessary, by National Guard or if really necessary, by the military, because they cant let that happen.

.....Trump, meanwhile, has gone from describing many Americans as evil to condemning them as vermin to equating them with the foreign enemies to labeling them the enemy from within who might even warrant some kind of military response.
Eight years later, basket of deplorables seems almost quaint.
