I'm seeing it all over the place, but only on illegal weapons charges. It is only Sheriff Chad, so far, who is calling it a "thwarted assassination attempt."

In my usage, an "assassination attempt" would have progressed far beyond finding weapons in someone's car. I'm sure once his car was parked and he was walking toward the event there would be another security checkpoint as well.

I would think there are periodic crazies out there being thwarted without public announcements quite regularly. If not, there would be no need for security, LE, nor secret service.

I am sure the secret service is on high alert now. If you are seriously trying to assassinate somebody under heavy protection you are going to use a sniper rifle.
