...aren't most OTC meds things that used to require a prescription?
To me that means, the safety record is long, well-understood, and side-effects well documented.
Now, if we're talking about something novel, I'd have more concerns, but it begs another question:
Would the FDA allow a novel mechanism drug hit the market OTC?

If a woman feels the need to see a doctor about birth control, this is also something she can do.
