At halftime they went to the local Detroit Fox affiliate for a news break. The crawl says Third assassination attempt of Trump in Coachella or something to that effect. Announcer says a man with a gun was found near the rally location. What in the actual Eff? How is that an assassination attempt? After a little digging, the guy was, of course, a far right white man, and was released on bail. He had fake press credentials, and multiple passports. The feds are calling it nothing, but Fox is calling it an attempt. They suck!

(3,252 posts)He was in attendance at the Republican National Convention in July.
At the Coachella rally yesterday, the vehicle which he was driving displayed a "homemade" license plate. He is charged under California law with possession of a handgun with a prohibited high-capacity magazine. He was released on $5,000 bond.
He founded a right-wing media company on which he hosts a podcast.

(983 posts)Funny how nobody has been able to find a single left wing person making direct threats or attempting to kill politicians.

(983 posts)He voted for Trump in 2016. In an X post on Jan. 8, 2024, Routh called on Nikki Haley to team up with Vivek Ramaswamy to create a winning ticket now that we all can get behind. Other previous posts showed support for Tulsi Gabbard.
That certainly seems like someone who favors right wing (or at least right leaning) policies.

(29,529 posts)So it was a far right guy at a Trump rally who happened to have a gun.
No intention of harming him?

(13,328 posts)The sheriff around there is a known proud MAGA who claimed after someone pointed out in public Trump was a felon that "maybe it was time to put a felon in the Whitehouse", and the arrested guy is a known visitor to the area Sovereign Citizen type nutjob that cosplays a survivalist patriot spy fighting a government...
There's a lot of those living in a very exciting alternative universe hanging around that area of California...
Methinks the sheriff was following the rural Imperial/Riverside/San Bernardino county tradition of adding a couple extra panels to the comic book world they've decided to live in. Especially since the guy was let out on bail almost immediately. Just saying.
