Wearing a camo "Harris-Walz" hat Monday at a "fish fry" in Central Georgia, former President Bill Clinton made some comments about immigration that the Trump campaign has jumped on as a dazzling gaffe.

Clinton referred to the death of Laken Riley, "a young woman who'd been killed by an immigrant," who Trump has mentioned in speeches and featured in campaign ads.

"If they had all been properly vetted, that probably wouldn't have happened," Clinton said. "But if they aren't properly vetted and that doesn't happen, and America is not having enough babies to keep our populations up, so we need immigrants that have been vetted to do work, there wouldn't be a problem. And [Trump] couldn't keep people all torn up and upset."
