(34,811 posts)...intelligent, incisive and decent to pass up.
His way of cutting through an argument recommends him highly as SOS.
I would love to see him become the first gay President since Jamed Buchanan, though clearly he'd be infinitely more competent.
(I've read so as to believe it that Woodrow Wilson was bisexual.) As is the case with Buchanan, I'm sure Pete would be a far better President than either Buchanan or Wilson.

(15,159 posts)but he is so good at messaging, I'd be happy to see him head the DNC after Harrison (who is doing a good job). Or press secretary, can you imagine?
He has taken George Lakoff's ideas and internalized them. He is possibly the best debater I have ever seen.

(12,285 posts)That man is just unbelievably good at this stuff. He's a generational talent that is being wasted because a certain part of the electorate can't overlook the fact that he's a gay man.

(7,965 posts)because they are only even considered when something goes terribly wrong with the health of the mother, or of the fetus. A lot od late term abortions should not even be callled abortions, because the fetus is already dead - and decomposing.
But I couldn't say it as well as he did.

(16,347 posts)not abortions in the 8th or 9th month. Neo natal care is amazing, but sometimes the babies can't be saved or are stillborn.

(25,951 posts)he gave that inspiring speech.
Listening and watching that - we said the same thing - he will be POTUS someday.
He stood out - just like Pete stands out. He overcame the racism that was considered his biggest drawback. He won two terms as POTUS. He became one of our greatest Presidents.
His speech the other day for Kamala was spot on. He always had that ability to say the right things and relate to Americans. He hasn't lost that.
I put Pete in that same situation. In time - he too will overcome what is considered his biggest drawback - being gay.
He will emerge as a great President as well.
I'm 76y/o and I won't be around to see it - but those that will be here will have something to look forward to. I'm jealous that I'll miss that.

(7,848 posts)And I love that he is repeating it, because it is simply the absolute truth and it cannot be rationally, or reasonably argued against in a society that claims to cherish freedom.
Only religious fanatics running roughshod in our political sphere aided and enabled by the media to dictate and amplify the extremist views and perimeters of this issue.
Love Pete!!!

(3,636 posts)An old friend hit me about late term abortions in our last conversation some many weeks ago, and my answer was not well organized. I tried to frame this so he and his wife might actually read it with open minds, but I fear they are too far gone. Still, thanks for giving me this good answer to try with.

(8,043 posts)Life or death emergency and needs to be delivered. Think of a car wreck or heart deformity or other
Issues where they take the baby in order to try and save it. These are NOT abortions but a delivery to save the life of the mother and/or the child. They are quick to assume that people are disposing of an inconvenience when its just the opposite.
They are couching it like that but most people would choose to do the same thing if it were them.
I just wish once he would mention those cases.
It reminds me of when we all talking about Terry Schiavo and the pull the plug argument. Was she brain dead or not? The Republicans argued to save her life and how could the liberals be so cruel?
In the meantime Senator Tom DeLays Dad was brain dead from an injury and had to be unplugged.
Their hypocrisy is never ending.

(1,170 posts)Some never want to give up hope or let go.
My opinion is Terri died on February 25, 1990. Modern medicine was able to interfere in that death. But it was not able to do anything about her brain loss. Terri was brain dead, which is legally, dead. Her brain stem still had some function. But that isn't life.

(18,296 posts)...abortion in the third trimester is when theres no chance of life. Its not a choice..... its medically NECESSARY to save the mother. No one has ever said 'NO there is no late term abortion' unless its medically necessary with being death imminent. And the decision is usually made very quickly..who has time to 'talk to a priest' when you're bleeding out...somewhere! In a public restroom??? In a car in the hospital parking lot?
and what does LATE term mean anyway? That's just L and D! Do they mean the very last day of 'pre- viability'? or what?
There needs to be a more defiant response and explanation of the support of this very rare and very necessary procedure..
we let them get away with using this ill defined term. My trumper sis used this term in the 90s..they actually believe it happens and we never say NO IT DOES NOT!

(711 posts)was put to Pete, but something about two men discussing what should happen to a womans body/life as if she has no part in this decision is disturbing. Pete could have said he trusts women and left it at that.

(286 posts)If a woman cannot deliver a healthy living infant she does not deserve to survive. If you have a catastrophic crisis with your pregnancy and you live in a state where treatment could mean the Dr. goes to prison, you must die to satisfy the dreams of men who hate women..
I've heard him give this answer before. Its the most thoughtful answer there is from the point of view of the woman's perspective
