Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThe real reason the buses stopped at Coachella? The angry mob attacked the bus drivers.
Ran across these on the Coachella Valley subreddit about what really happened with the buses :
And then this was one of the responses:
He works for the bus company that was doing transportation for the rally in Coachella. The rally didn't think about the logistics of 15k people and the buses weren't enough.
People got angry and began to riot. Throwing themselves in front of buses, banging on the windows and doors, and attacked two bus drivers. (One female driver was spit on by an elderly woman. The woman had to be restrained by another person from grabbing the driver by the hair)
The other driver was my father. He is a veteran and served in Vietnam and has head trauma from the war and from an car accident years ago...he was sucker punched from behind the head while he was walking outside his bus. He has a broken nose and hopefully his prior head trauma isn't worsen but won't know until some time. (He did get a CAT scan) He didn't see who hit him and he lost vision temporarily in his right eye (it's back now).
I just cannot understand this cult of violence and hate. My dad is 70 and what a coward to hit someone from behind because of something that was not my dad's fault.
The news didn't report this and even riot police showed up because of this behavior with the buses...
Just had to vent and get this off my chest. I just am angry and sad at the state of our political climate

So, it was the angry mob that stopped the buses. Hope some news outlets pick up on this.

(4,416 posts)I kinda doubt it was made up. Too specific; too much in line with who these people are. Did the magats start because there weren't enough busses and that's what kicked them into riot mode? Maybe. But that's who these people are in their heart of hearts (as tho they had one). Just told my husband THIS is what we can expect WHEN Harris wins.
"With the specifics that can be checked by those with access to hospitals, etc.," is exactly why it is almost certainly made up. If it happened (and as you say we have specifics that can be checked) then it should be really simple to verify. Yet, here we are 3 days later and not a single hint on all of the internet that such a thing occurred except this single post from some random nobody on reddit.
Just because it's in line with preconceived notions of something that the MAGAs would do, is not any kind of evidence that it actually happened. Hey, I totally believe myself that these people are certainly capable of doing such a thing, but common sense tells me if it happened, there would be some evidence of it beyond a single random reddit post.
A lie that can be checked is less likely to be a lie, on my experience. The only exception I've seen is Ts words.
Plus to me these seems like perfectly acceptable normal maga behavior. Unless proven otherwise, im gonna hold out as very possibly true.

https://www.ocregister.com/2024/10/14/trump-coachella-rallygoers-stranded-in-dark-miles-from-their-cars-after-speech-reports-say/
Some key excerpts:
Officer David Torres, a California Highway Patrol spokesperson, said via email that there were no incidents in this area that CHP handled.
There became an issue with the drivers being over hours due to the traffic delays that prevented them from driving, leaving (the sheriffs department) to transport the visitors themselves, Torres said, noting the California Department of Transportation limits the number of hours bus drivers can be on the road.
So apparently the bus drivers had driven their legal limit of hours before all people were returned to the parking lots. And the Trump campaign did not make arrangements to make sure there were drivers available to shuttle the attendees back. (Note: this is not necessarily inconsistent with that prior tweet)
County officials referred questions about the buses to the Trump campaign, which did not immediately respond Monday, Oct. 14, to a request for comment.
Seems like confirmation that the campaign screwed up and didn't make sure they would have buses available to return attendees to their cars. This was clearly totally on the Trump Campaign.
PedroXimenez
(627 posts)They knew what this was about, they know it's Trump's fault, but refuses to tell the media, and in fact tried to get around the regulations, on behalf of Trump:
The CHP told sheriffs authorities it couldnt approve bus drivers to violate any federal or state laws, pertaining to driving hours, Torres wrote.

(2,865 posts)I spent over 23 years driving school buses, and working also as a driver trainer.
I can remember an out of town field trip, where a large number of our drivers transported athletic and cheerleading teams for a regional event. I order to abide by the hours limitation, we had to shuttle multiple relief drivers who would drive the return trips. These kinds of regulations are for safety, to prevent accidents based on driver fatigue.
I can see that tRump's campaign might be to chintzy to pay for the extra drivers, but I would be surprised that the person at the bus company who took the order for transportation didn't say anything. The hours limitation is a common part of both state and federal law, since the drivers have to possess a valid commercial drivers license in order to transport passengers. The federal government is the entity that sets the standards for and regulates the CDL program.
This smells like tRump's campaign expecting to be allowed to break rules and also not paying for the full amount of service required, and then trying to blame the service provider.
I just can't believe that people actually want tRump and the people around him to hold the office of the most powerful person in the world. I know that they're doing it because he promises to punish everyone that they hate, but it's just mind blowing that they can't see that the incompetence, greed and malice will affect them as well.

(2,330 posts)It's interesting that the TV station's story talked about the sheriff's office helping transport some people to their cars. Since the TV station obviously talked to the sheriff's office and a bus driver apparently told the station he was assaulted, wouldn't it make sense either for the TV station to ask the sheriff's office about the alleged assault or for the sheriff's office to tell the TV station about it? Shouldn't there be some sort of police report over any assault incident? While it's something, at this point there's still no real evidence that the reddit post was factual. It's curious that the supposed assault is mentioned in passing and there was no attempt to confirm it. If there is truly anything to it, I would expect to see more info very quickly. We'll see.

(54,007 posts)This incident happened at a rich Trump donor's rural ranch. The CHP ("California Highway Patrol" ) deals with traffic issues on highways, this is not their jurisdiction. Weird that the OC Register would even bring up the CHP.
The ranch is in Riverside County and it was the Riverside County Sheriffs Department that was there.
The bus driver was interviewed by KTLA (a major independent TV station for the Southern California area where I live), who told KTLA that bus drivers were assaulted, that is why they stopped shuttling passengers:
The Riverside County Sheriffs Office said deputies assisted some attendees by providing rides in their vehicles but deferred questions about the transportation issues to Trumps campaign organizers.

The locals are laughing at him because he's going to lose in the state of California. So he need not even come to the state to campaign because he won't get enough votes in California to win no matter how many times he visits.
Everything is a spectacle with him. It's The Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight* story over and over. He's surrounded by a cast of kooks and his campaign staff has a combined IQ of -10.
He has to get free publicity somehow. So every venue there's a disruption, an "attempted" assassination, an interloper or someone faints.
It's a manufactured mess designed to call attention to itself because there's nothing else of substance going on with him to talk about.
This would be what we as a nation would have to deal with every day of our lives if he gets elected.
Every damn day he will find some way to INTENTIONALLY fuck something up, cause chaos, or kill someone just to keep his distorted ugly criminal face in the headlines.
The psychopath won't rest until everyone and everything around them is destroyed.
That's the kind of world we're heading for if he is elected. Much worse than being stranded in the desert for an hour or a manure farm overnight.
It's a risk we will kill ourselves or each other just to escape the stress and the relentless day to day to day pandemonium his presidency would create for us. It will drive everyone who pays attention stark raving mad.

At first glance, an offender videotaping their crimes seems like a counterintuitive and counterproductive thing to do. After all, when offenders reach for their cameras, they may inadvertently contribute to their own capture and conviction. In all cases discussed in this article, offenders have ended up producing evidence that was later used against them in court. Yet, publicly available Norwegian higher court decisions suggest that, despite the apparent lack of logic, it is becoming increasingly common.
And it's obvious the MAGA mindset would believe they were doing nothing wrong if they confronted bus drivers. There is no doubt in my mind that if this happened, somebody would have posted video at least hinting that something like this could have happened. They didn't because it's a completely made up story.

Yesterdays Los Angeles Times (Oct 14, 2024, page A5) references attendees lining up in 100 degree heat with little shade and inadequate ice and water, and multiple medical emergencies. Representative Raul Ruiz (D-Indio) said Coachella has seen presidents and candidates before (Bernie Sanders, Obama, Ford and Eisenhower, all under various circumstances) but he found Trumps decision to campaign there baffling. Still, attendees drove in from places like Hemet and got to hear Matt Gaetz speak, and they got to hear Trump trash our state and threaten to cut off federal finds for fighting forest fires that are on federal land.
Nothing about a transportation crisis returning from the rally, altho the reporters likely had their own wheels and went straight back to the office to write it up.

The rally was staged far from the actual concert site on a former manure farm, Calhoun Ranch, which is owned by Trump supporters who probably let the campaign use their land for free.
----------
I know that it has been reported to be a "manure farm." The owners of the property say otherwise. You might ask yourself what a "manure farm" is. I can assure you that no one farms manure. There are business that process manure, yes.
https://dairydoo.com/
Why does this matter? Because it weakens the effort to stop Trump and elect the Harris/Walz ticket when we throw around sensationalistic and false stories. It makes all of us look ridiculous and gives the right wing operatives a credible basis for dismissing any and all criticism of Trump and MAGA.
Trump may or may not be soiling his pants. There may or may not have been some manure on the polo ground where the Trump rally was held. But really, people? That's all we have?
Wiz Imp
(2,330 posts)From google:
A manure farm is a farm that manages manure from livestock operations, including capturing, storing, treating, and using it. Manure management can impact farm productivity, the environment, and water quality
Here's a link to a current manure management business/manure farm:
http://www.down2earthfarms.com/manure-managementremoval.html
And nobody said it was a current manure farm. It's a former manure farm. The best I can tell , this location hasn't been a "manure farm" in at least 40 years (hence the word former) but that doesn't mean it wasn't at one time. I can assure you this is not a false story.
So, some manure processing companies call themselves "farms." The word gets throw around a lot and is used for things that have nothing to do with farming.
When I searched for "manure farms" all I got were manure processing companies.
OK so let's say that 40 years ago there was a manure processing facility there. So what? It is a polo ground now and has bee since 1987. That means a lot of unprocessed manure.
