It's pretty much how you wouldn't want to bring sundowning Grandpa to your rehearsal dinner to give the wedding toast. Seems likely that the 39 minutes of swaying in a town hall lost him some votes (surely at least a few people who walked out mused that just possibly this is not who they want with the nuclear codes?), and whatever would come spewing out in an interview could lose more.

I get why they would do this. He is out of control. However, his WORST statements have all come from rally ad-libs and responses to people he is very comfortable with.

The campaign's problem is that no matter what they want, he won't stick to his teleprompter at rallies or stick to practiced answers. He certainly does not have the intellectual agility to find answers that don't backfire on him.

While the Harris Fox interview had a partisan hack asking RW flamed questions. As time has passed, I have not read any posts suggesting better responses. Things I thought would help on thinking more would be worse. (For example, why not counter the three women killed with women filled by migrants while Trump was President or similar murders by American born people 1. It could be seen as attempting to minimize the tragedy of the three women and 2. It ultimately backs Trump wanting to report all illegal migrants and severely closing the border. Instead, she stuck to what the law should do.)

No way Trump could have handled an MSNBC interview with Maddie, Psaki, O'Donnell, Melber or Wallace.
