Hello:
Today I would like to take what some might call a poll, and others a survey. As always when I attempt to do so, there is no "right" or "wrong" answer.
1: do you trust the polling being reported on the Harris vs felon contest?
2: Have you been called to answer questions about who you plan to vote for in the upcoming elections (including Senate, House, and/or local elections?
3: If so, were you called on a land line or cell phone?
4: Approximately how many people do you know that have been called to take a poll?
5: Have you voted yet?
Thank you to any/all that respond.

(27,826 posts)I don't think pollsters can any longer predict the vote because they can no longer connect to a representative sample of all of the potential voters. Landline phones, at one time, gave them a good indicator of voter sentiment, but they no longer have a good handle on who is voting and why they are voting.

(523 posts)I'm in Illinois and did early voting last Tuesday (October 8).
1. No, I don't trust the polls, as they seem to be increasingly unreliable. I'm counting on Allan Lichtman's analysis, which predicts a Harris win.
2 &3. No calls here, either via landline or cell.
4. I know no one who has been called
5. Can't say it enough -- yes, I've already voted

(25,688 posts)1: do you trust the polling being reported on the Harris vs felon contest? - I do - I believe it's a true snapshot of the people they've spoken to/surveyed. I think a better question for me is, did they choose the people with an agenda, and are they taking into account and oversampling women to match the 2022 (post-Dobbs) trend with the stronger female turnout (batting down abortion laws in red states), over the 2020 election?
2: Have you been called to answer questions about who you plan to vote for in the upcoming elections (including Senate, House, and/or local elections? Never. and I am *such* a likely voter
3: If so, were you called on a land line or cell phone? N/A
4: Approximately how many people do you know that have been called to take a poll? Just a few that have mentioned in on DU, none in real life
5: Have you voted yet? Hell yes, I have!

(7,597 posts)I have not been polled nor has anyone else I know of. Im suspicious of the national polls. I have already voted for all Democrats on the ballot. Cautiously optimistic.

(105,662 posts)2. I don't answer numbers I don't recognize so I suspect I do get calls for polls but without a caller id, I don't answer. I truly think that is the biggest fallacy for polling methods today;
However, I DO online YOUGOV polls most weeks although the ones I get are often not political. I do have some trust in them because they have an ENORMOUS number of US and worldwide subjects enrolled and with screenable information to ensure random and representative sampling. That is why you are seeing them work more with other pollsters. ALL online. All by invitation only.
5. Yes, I submitted my mailed ballot (thank YOU, Colorado, you wonderful state for your sane voting policies) to a secured drop-off point (with cameras) which is picked up daily by members of both parties working in concert.
In Greensboro, NC. I waited for 45 minutes. Longest Ive ever waited here. There were a disproportionate number of women.🤞🤞

(68,368 posts)1: do you trust the polling being reported on the Harris vs felon contest?
Mostly, no. Too much "adjusting" to compensate for this or that.

No

5: Have you voted yet?
No. Early voting here starts this weekend. We are going on Saturday. We go with another couple and a single woman (widow who lost her wife a few years ago). We always go to vote and then out to dinner.afterwards. We will be straight Dx5
