Since we're old and retired we go mid-morning. Our precinct is pretty active (as is all of New Haven) and we expect parking problems (the school's lot is big but not huge). We expect a huge turnout and hope we don't have to stand in line too long...hubby has a walker with a seat but I don't so I'll be standing a lot.

(64,750 posts)We had to go downtown to a municipal building with no parking lot, a lot of traffic on narrow streets, then find a secure ballot mail box nearby in which to place our vote. I can't believe that liberal New Haven has such a difficult process!

(185,979 posts)My brother repeated an often stating lie - that absentee votes in Virginia arent counted unless an election is close.
Ive voted early in person for 12-16 years. Before it was wide open I just claimed I could be out of town for work. Hell, I could have been. Who knows whats going to happen? Thats why I dont wait.
My wife is waiting until Election Day. My daughter and I voted last Friday. Her first time voting.

(10,563 posts)During the pandemic my assemblyman introduced legislation to have mail-in ballots sent to all registered voters in the state - with a postage-paid return envelope. And California isnt the only state that does this. Its a solved problem- if you can get the powers that be to actually do it.
My plan? Fill in my ballot a week or so after it arrives, mail it in, then obsessively check my email for confirmation that its been received and accepted. If I dont get this in a week Ill contact the registrar, who will probably tell me to fill in a provisional ballot at a county voting center. (this election it took 3 days for the ballot to be accepted)

(3,013 posts)There are very rarely lines, but I think mid-morning should be fine.
I like to vote on election day, but somehow it's not quite the same as it used to be.
I miss the voting booths with the curtains and the levers.
The poll workers aren't locals any more. It was pleasant to chat with them about goings on in town.
They're all strangers now and don't recognize voters and greet them by name.

(13,341 posts)And the Counties are supposed to notify you when your ballots are mailed out and when they're received, so if they get "lost in transit" for any reason, there's time to recover.
Yes, there are sometimes mail shenanigans going on, especially in the resentful red/blue divide districts, but they're fairly rare and easily caught by the postal police.

The line might look more intimidating than it really is. The line was wrapped outside the building but after 5 minutes at a stand still, it started to move quickly.
Also, check all the available locations again because it turns out there was a location right outside my subdivision that probably had a zero minute wait. I went to the same location as years past out of habit without thinking there could be a better/closer option.

(69,270 posts)Early voting for our county just started today & it runs 9:30 to 4:30.
The closest location is near the golf course where I play so I'll probably stop on the way home.
After a couple days, it probably won't be too nuts there.
